AW and AWII are fantastic.

All of Frusciante's solo stuff is amazing, makes RHCP sound like crap!

rhcp is such crap compared to ataxia first album....lol
ataxia is the best thing he has done. DUST!!! lol montreal!! jeeeeez.
his other solo efforts are hit and miss. but always some gems on each album.
ataxia second album is not good i feel.
ive heard the bootlegs of knitting factory ataxia gigs.... toooooo goood.
sphere is one of his masterpieces if not 'the'. its the first song on one of his solo albums.

AWII is a grower. I wasn't too keen the first couple of listens, but I love it now.

comon.....why not? ok the singing is terrible... and hes not the best lyricist....

ohh man...this is a great thread.
i have not heard of alot of these bands you guys are mentioning.
i am fairly familar with Punk music, and from what ive heard, i can say im not a huge fan of the genre albeit the odd song/album.

I heard bad brains and black flag years ago, and that was just too hard core for my liking. lol It was too crazy. (maybe id feel diff now)

no ive not got any op ivy or b.brains.
when i have some spare time im gonna hear samples of all the bands listed here.

Totally agree....JF and Ataxia by far the best stuff ever made. The Empyrean is unbelievable...

Something like Fugazi....do you like Ignite? Try them out, their first 3 albums are awesome.

never heard of ignite.
i plan to check all this threads bands out when i have time.

Your opinion, but if you are going to like JF, you must love Niandra LaDes and UJAWTS...probably the most...I dont even have words to describe it.

:) Yea MM are hardly easy-listening. But their music is quite unique and so full of character that putting in the time to get to know it is really worth it.

Have you listened to Sunny Day Real Estate (and that whole gang)?
A few people I know really like Radiohead as well but.. maybe they're not what you're into.

MM seemed quite mellow and unoffensive... i will listen more, thanks. Yes they did seem to have a character and sound about them. Not a million miles away from arcade fire...

yes totally...if you take the time to discover and give stuff/bands a real chance....you will be rewarded and find some gems.... and thats the way you should discover music...rather than the mtv sexy girls in video mentatlity..... i hate music videos and tv...for children.... such a cop out to just follow mtv and charts......

never heard of sunny estate....

radiohead? lol lol lol lol lol
i think music will go no further. I am obsessed with them. have been all my life. i would go so far as to say my love of their music is one of the defining things about me. If you dont like them, i cant fully respect your music credentials/opinions/tastes...thats just me....
- kid a is the masterpiece...thats when they became great in my mind.
- thom yorkes voice = mmm :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

lol I was only unsure because I'm only just getting into them. I figure the best place to start is at the start with the first album. Creep is such an awesome song, although I'll doubtlessly be informed that there are better songs on that album :D

What would you say your top few favourite bands were?

no no no no no non on o
dont start from the beginning.....
if anything...you should start from the new one..... thats the safest way.

but my reccommendation...start from ok computer......onwards.....
but the danger is..... you will want rock after ok comp...... and kid a is the polar opposite to rock..... radiohead fans are of two sorts...those who want guitar old boring rock.....or those who like their new direction and the uniqueness of thieir weirder stuff..... it all comes from a similar place theme mood...but kid a is just pure...pure .... pure.....45mins of pure something ..... i dont even listen to it no more as its too powerful....

throw that album you got in the bin....bends has a coupla good songs...ok comp has handful of gooooooooooood songs...lol...... and then its time for the good stuff.

arpeggi is one of my favs...im gonna get it tattoed on my neck.

top fav bands?
well...i think no band even comes close to radiohead....not even close.....
but those who have my respect and love:
- bloc party
- mogwai BUT YOU GOTTA BE IN THE MOOD and i think you have to live in a cold cllimate....
- some jf solo stuff and ataxia first album

- blonde redhead
- chilis but only cali and BSSM

i like alot diff songs for diff bands yuo know..... most bands ive liked some element of them.....broken social scene have some nice stuff.....

george michael too.......older album is kid a of the pop world.

im so varied you will laugh......but you shouldnt... oh and coldplay of course....chris martin is talented....

OH!!!!!!!! AMAZING SONG ON BECKS NEW ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOUNDS LIKE BEACH BOYS....WOW!!!!! ITS CALLED CHEMTRAILS.........

how about you?

nine inch nails new instrumental album is goooooooooooooood.

vocals are no good, for any band, unless your name is thom yorke.. Instrumentals are always better.

you do NOT have to sing on every piece of music. i find meaning/pleasure in the music and sounds...or sound of syllabuls...more than the literal word meaning......

ps....listened to bad brains....i like!!!! short album tho....like five short songs...yellow cover....... sun was shining i was feeling good....energetic.....bad brains felt good......

I would say MM lyrics are about as good as the instrumental... maybe. I sometimes feel bad that I don't take in the meanings of the lyrics but oh well. And just about every new band i get into i start with the first album so uhm

I'd say my top favourite bands are:

Modest Mouse
Death Cab for Cutie (God i love that band) + All-time Quarterback + The Postal Service
Bloc Party (one of only few UK bands that I like- which is a shame i guess.)
Paramore (because their songs are catchy/the band members are actually pretty cool, <3 hayley...)
Built to spill (i'm just getting into...)
Sunny Day Real Estate
Radiohead - i'm starting to get into

+ Silversun Pickups (who have a new album out in a couple of days :D) , System of a Down, Senses fail ... to name a few.

lol I think we should stop spamming this thread. Get a Last.fm account and friend me :p
