Macbook OS 10.5.6
iphone early 2008
After installing upgrade 2.2 firmware I have been trying to use Quickpwn 2.5 for Mac to jailbreak and unlock. I keep getting the message that 'the firmware is not supported by PWN but according to all the information I have it should work. Please can anyone help as my phone is now useless.

Use a USB hub. Oh, and search. You're not the first with 10.5.6.

Hi
I tried a hub -- but I know how or where to search for the phone. I have read everything I can and even tried using OS 10.4 -- but with no luck.
What else can I do?

Make sure it's a "Powered" USB hub.

I tried a powered hub -- but still no luck!
SHOULD I TRY TO USE THE ZIPHONE JAILBREAKER OR WILL THAT MAKE MATTERS WORSE?

I thought quickpwn 2.5 is for OS 2.2.1 and quickpwn 2.2 is for OS 2.2, I might be wrong, I am using winXP.

Do not use Ziphone. It only works up to 1.1.4.
Try a fresh restore to 2.2, then try QuickPWN again. Also, make sure that your QuickPWN version matches the firmware you are trying to pwn.

At the moment I have no option to 'restore' on iTunes.
I am thinking of downloading 2.1 firmware and corresponding pwn but I can't see a way of restoring to 2.1 -- or anything?:(

You could try taking caps locks off for a start. Do not use anything that is not from the Dev Team.

I did not use the caps lock and have tried to make it work on two different machines.
I still need to know if there is any benefit in trying to load 2.1 firmware and how to make iTunes allow me to do so.

First off, ditch 2.1. You are already on the 2.2 baseband (2.28.00) so there is no point in trying to go back. It seems like you are using the QuickPWN for firmware 2.1. Since you are on 2.2, obviously they will not correspond with each other.
As I said earlier, make sure that your Quickpwn version is up to date. It seems like your not listening to the people trying to help you.

Hi Benflick,
Believe me, I am listening and I definitely have the correct software for 2.2 (and correct pwn) but when I try to run it it comes up with that window that I posted earlier and it doesn't 'see' the iphone. I really am not stupid, I just cannot find a way to make pwn run.

And the iPhone isn't showing up in iTunes either?
Try a different computer/ USB port.
If it does show up in iTunes, restore the phone.

iTunes sees the phone but this is what I get on my screen. I have tried in a different m/c.
I am unable to restore to anything because this is all I get on iTunes. I have even tried two different SIM cards.

Hi Benflick,
OK, I managed to download a new pwn file that seems to work. But it only gets as far as asking for the bootloader files (I have already downloaded them) but it can't find them and asks me to go to the www to download but even when I do that it cannot see them. I can't get past that -- do you know how to make it 'see' the bootloader files?

Click browse when it asks for them. Put them on your desktop or somewhere easy to find.

Hi again,
Yes, I got as far as selecting the file but it says: "this does not appear to be the correct file"
But I downloaded it fresh from the web? I think maybe they are zipped but will not unzip with my progs. If you have unzipped versions of the two bootloader files maybe you could send them to me? (MAC)
It's getting late here in Spain -- so I'll try again in the morning.
Many thanks for all your trouble so far.
regards Barry

I put all the files on the desktop and then the prog. continues saying that it is building IPSW file it continues for a minute or two and then says "failed".
I don't know what to do next?

i can't tell you guys how many threads i've seen about this stuff. so many guides are so outdated.
if someone just made a site with the guide to jailbreak each firmware revision with EACH program we would see such a decrease in noise here on MR.
when i was jailbreaking i know i would have loved to see that.
it just sucks when you try to downgrade+jailbreak+activate+unlock with an iPod Touch firmware version with the wrong program with the wrong iTunes.
there is so much mis information on the web regarding jailbreaking i don't blame everyone for posting on here. all everyone else says is to do a search. :(

There is, the iClarified guides are very good. You can find them here (http://iclarified.com/tutorials/iphone/index.php).
