;)I have a JVC mini DV digital video camera model GR-DVP5E that has a S/AV port which I want to use to connect up to my macbook pro... I dont seem to be having any luck finding the right adaptor. I thought it may be the M9319G/A adaptor but not too sure anymore does anyone know what I can use to connect the two together so I can transfer mini dv data to the mb pro...aaagh:confused::apple:

If you mean S-Video with "S/AV port": http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/products/tuner/250plus/product1.en.html
But miniDV cameras should also have a Firewire (IEEE 1394, iLink, DV In/Out) port on it. - Consult your manual for this, I couldn't find one on the world wild wet.
It looks like this:

You need a cable like this:

and then you do this:

and iMovie for capturing.
S-Video is analogue and means quality loss due to conversion (digital to analogue and then analogue to digital again.
If you can use FireWire you stay digital all the time.
One hour of captured DV encoded video takes up to 12 GB of hdd space.

If you don't have the Unibody MBP (the one with the black bezel around the display), this cable would also suffice (as it may be cheaper).

It's a 4-to-6-pin FireWire cable that gets into the FireWire 400 port on older MBP's. The cable I showed in earlier posts is for the FireWire 800 port.

PS: Now I feel stupid reading your thread title again. You clearly have a Unibody MacBook Pro.
Maybe this added info above will help future generations not afraid to search.

Don't all mini DV cameras have a Firewire port? The AV port is for showing the tape on a TV set. Use Firewires (Sony calls in 'iLink") to send the data from the camera is digital format.
