View Full Version : Importing Music from PS2 games...

Seeing as I'm not exactly sure of where this should go, I'll post it in this forum as it seems fairly wide in its topics.

Anyway, I own a lot of PS2 games and an old G4 that has a DVD-ROM drive (side question: will this drive burn CD-R/Ws?).

I like listening to the music from some of these games, but I don't like having to go into the game to play the songs. (You can see where this is going.)
So, is there any way on the Mac - I know there is on the PC - to import and convert the various types of music formats stored on PS2 DVDs?

If there is, could you point me in the right direction (to a program/tutorial etc.)? It would be most appreciated.

I don't think it's illegal to import the songs if you own the CD, although someone may raise the issue of 'Any de-encryption of files is a crime.'

There is a program that rips the audio from DVD's for OS X .

I've used OSEx to rip the audio from DVD: www.cs.buffalo.edu/~afaversa

Then, I used mAC3dec to convert the files to AAC or mp3: sourceforge.net/projects/mac3dec

I don't see why it wouldn't work on a PS2 DVD. I don't have a Mac here right now, or I would try it for you before you downloaded it.

Let us know how it turns out, I might be interested in ripping some game music myself.

It really depends on the game, some use Mp3 / Aiff files, others have files stored in archives on the disc. I recommend downloading MPlayer OS X (do a google search), as it can open nearly every type of music/video file. Then just try playing random files off the PS2 disc.

Not exactly what you were asking how to do, but you might as well try it anyway...

Sounds like it's time I got OSX, or people still made OS9 compatible programs...

Thanks for the help, though.
