It's a good deal if you're even looking at just one app. You're bound to find another one in the bundle you really like.

I ONLY want world of goo, so I'm getting this =D

That's the only reason I bought it, then I actually fiddled with the other apps. I use three of them daily. :D

I wasn't sure how useful the apps would be for me, but I took the plunge last week. I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised at how much I have used the apps I got.

Yesterday a great app called Times was unlocked...I have to say that alone made MacHeist worth it for me. It has to be THE BEST RSS client I have used. The interface is very unique and easy to use.

Other apps I have gotten lots of use out of so far:
1. Delicious Library 2 (Simply Amazing!)
2. Acorn
4. Picturesque
5. Phoneview
6. WireTap Studio
7. Little Snapper (used daily)
And, as I said above, I use Times daily. It is now my main RSS feed reader.

I skipped number 3...lol. whoops. I'm gonna say that Kinemac is also a really really neat program. I have messed around with it, and I love it. But...I probably won't use it much.

I'm looking forward to messing around with Espresso and The Hit List when they get unlocked.

finally this is on the front page. i bought the bundle for iphone view, kinemac, wiretap, boinx tv. picturesque is a nice one too.

little snapper is great but i had it already. delicious library seems to be great but i have to see if I have use for it.

the games are nice but i'm not into computer games.

well, for me it's a good bundle already even without the last two apps.:)

OK, I bought the bundle as well and it seems to be one of those bundles geared with many things that will come in handy down the road. For me being a new mac user its a cool way to try a bunch of software on the cheap. Delicious is by far my favorite so far, and is worth the 40$ alone to me since I was already going to get it. (had been using the demo for a while)

I love the MacHeist bundles. I usually jump on any bundles that are this inclusive even if I don't use all the apps. I think I'm subconsciously trying to repent for all my years in college on Hotline client.

Problem is, of course, that if that is a common strategy then they won't be unlocked. I confess to waiting until boinxtv was unlocked, then I jumped.

I'd encourage you to do it so I can get the last two, too. :)

Makes no sense to me.

i think i'll have to jump on this. i've been trying to justify the money to get a license for wiretap studio but $69 was too expensive for me. however, for $39 , i can get that plus some recipes for my wife and delicious library to try out for me. i'm always up for tryig another cataloging software. i currently use booxter. does DL have iphone portability?

I don't get it. What is the point of these "locked" apps?

Makes no sense to me.

They get unlocked after a certain amount of money is raised. BoinxTV was unlocked at $400,000, and The Hit List and Espresso will be unlocked at $500,000.

I don't get it. What is the point of these "locked" apps?

Makes no sense to me.

When you buy the bundle, a portion of the sale goes to charity. The point is that once the amount of money raised reaches a certain amount, a new app is "unlocked".

I also bought this on the first day. I was thinking that I would only be using 1/2 applications when I bought it, but have found myself using almost all of them. Acorn, Picturesque, iSale, WireTap Studio, Times, (trial) Espresso, (trial) Hit List and Multiwinia are all great.

BTW, if anyone wants to purchase the bundle, I would greatly appreciate if you would click on my referral link (http://www.macheist.com/bundle/u/15725/) (which opens up to 2 more free apps for the member whose link the purchase is made through).

I bought first day, and don't regret it for a second. Played World of Goo and love it! Also, Delicious Library was a nice addition...

Ones I will use on a weekly basis:

World of Goo
Picturesque
Phoneview
The Hit List (once unlocked)
Times
LittleSnapper
Eventbox

Honorable Mentions:

Kinemac - I would love to learn how to use this down the road
Espresso - Also seems like a nice little tool if I ever want to create a website on my own (once unlocked)...

This does not even include the many apps I got before the bundle went for sale through MacHeist. Plus, with the $8 discount I got for doing all the missions, I couldn't say no!

Overall for $39 (less if you have vouchers) I think it's a good deal, although I am unsure why there's been so much negative press about this Macheist IMHO it's work getting just for Kinemac, Picturesque and Littlesnapper.

Apr 6, 2009, 12:58 AM
All these apps seem pretty useless with repeated functionality that's already in OS X or free etc.

I guess this is a good way for them to make money on a bunch of pointless apps.

I guess if someone likes one it might be an ok deal, but that is usually the case which means they are getting a bunch of other crap they don't even care about.

Sorry, don't mean to be a downer, if it were me I would just develop software that is more unique and innovative so that it is worth selling alone for a good price.

Ombatay
Apr 6, 2009, 12:58 AM
Despite the criticism these guys get for making so much and giving so little, they're still looking to give 500,000$ to charity they likely wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

I know some have felt the dev's got the shaft in the past, but for someone who makes a small app that may otherwise never get used, how awesome is it that 50,000 people now have the app, and you've at least gotten some cash for it?

I bought on day 1, and delicious library 2 and times being added are such sweet bonuses. I've been a die-hard Things user, so I'm curious to see how the hit list pans out...

And the heist itself was awesome entertainment, incredibly well thought out. I feel like I'd pay some amount just for the entertainment of the whole thing. I can almost guarantee I'll be in for next year too...

Mr.Gadget
Apr 6, 2009, 01:24 AM
Delicious Library 2 is worth the price alone! Not to mention iSale...
This is a steal folks! Macheist is great for these type of deals. This is my second bundle with them...

I would never fault them for making a ton o' money! That is the way it works! The fact that they are giving anything to charity is awesome!

I bought in early - and I'm happy with the bundle.

I know my wife is going to do a clearout of the house as we prepare to renovate, so iSale will fit the bill nicely - I've already set that one up!!

I have an iPhone, so the phone viewer had to be useful.

We have an 11 year old visit regularly, so games will pay for themselves.

And was keen to see BoinxTV unlocked - there's potential use in there for me as well.

Then to find Delicious Library available too - bingo!!!

And there's great feedback on Times, so that will get a looki-in.

All-in-all, excellent value and a chance to direct some funds to charity - even from as far away as Australia!!! Feel-good factor: 10.

Cheers! Gary2002

It's kind of sleazy now, eww.

Just call me a Happy Hooker! You can find me down on the MacCorner shilling for MacHeist. The Mac Street is big enough to include all kinds of people including us lowlifes that like learning about new and interesting software.

This is also a great way for new developers like the young men who developed Picturesque ...these Aussie kids are still in school and are certainly NOT seasoned professionals that can put together a marketing strategy that will put their product in 50,000 hands. (I read about them on their web-site after I bought the bundle. They won the Young Developer Award at MacWorld. I think the MacHeist team bought them some free Sushi also to entice them...)

PS. You forgot to mention SlickDeals.com which has a MacHeist post under Hot Deals for software!

I bought the first day after patiently waiting for months.

What I've found in the past is that there are gems throughout. The bundle usually includes at least one that I've been eying and that makes the bundle immediately a bargain. I get what I want at a lower price and a bunch of other stuff to boot.
This year it was WireTap Studio.

The great thing is that I discover and "need" some of the other apps as the year goes forward.

It's just an insane deal.

Yeah, because it's really worth $199... ;)

Worth is actually relative to need. And even though I wasn't impressed with getting an *expensive* app thrown in, thinking it was way beyond my skill or need, it's turned out to be fairly easy and fun.

No "need" yet but I accidently did quite a comical clip of myself since iSight was recording all my facial expressions as I was trying to figure it out. It should provide good entertainment value to the family.

I bought mine after the first few days, and there are some great apps this time!

My "Had to haves" were Wiretap Studio and PhoneView. iSale looks good, although I really like GarageSale that I bought like 2 years ago. Kinemac is cool, cos I've been wanting a program to help me create video intros, and I was *really* waiting for BoinxTV to be unlocked, so it'll be interesting to download and try that one.

I didn't know about World of Goo before this, but it's a really good game as well.

All these apps for only 40 bucks? Unless you already own these apps, or absolutely NONE of them interest you, there's no reason NOT to get this bundle!

Much appreciated!

I believe there wont be easily a better option for 39 dollars. ( And DON't for forget that 25% goes to charities )

I hope Hitlist and Esperesso gets unlocked. ( I really like Hitlist, it is a beautiful mixture of OmniFocus and Things)

The last few times they've done this the people who bought the bundles got "LE" versions of software which couldn't be updated when the developer released new versions because the key codes only worked on these special MacHeist versions.

Purchased through teh MacRumors link. :)

PhoneView and The Hit List look good, and World of Goo is apparently quite good fun.. So I'm thinking them + 25% to charity isn't a bad thing.

it's a great deal... I was about to get Kinemac for the $300 retail

The $39 are way worth it just for Kinemac (to do 3d animations), WireTap Studio (record any audio even streaming or internet radioand quick-edit it), and BoinxTV (videocasts- still learning it but it looks great).

"Times" is a great extra for managing all rss feeds with a newspaper-like GUI. Picturesque, Acorn, Delicious and LittleSnapper come in handy for my .mac site and presentations (instead of going into photoshop or illustrator for every little thing)... PhoneView seems great for when I get an iPhone, and although I have no current need for iSale, SousChef, EventBox and the games, I'm sure the'll come in handy someday in the near future...

I'm sure the last 2 apps WILL get unlocked (Espresso and Hitlist)... roughly 2,800 bundles to go (=$27000 to hit the 500,000 goal). Espresso seems like a good-simple code editor... and it also seems TheHitList looks promising, specially since Things fails multi-mac sync.

So, (IMHO) go get it! ... totally worth it.
cheers!

Buyer beware. Their order-processing system is pretty messed up, as the 40+ pages of people who have had orders go wrong (multiple charges, charges with no order arriving, Paypal transaction IDs not matching, Credit card payments going to a white screen, etc etc) will attest.

I've ended up being charged twice - once on credit card, once on Paypal despite their system telling me the Paypal order failed - and only received the bundle receipts about 72 hours later. Still waiting for a refund on the dupe.

I got the bundle for Wiretap, Kinemac and World of Goo - all of which are great. I'm a little annoyed with having to chase up for a refund though. The mods on the forums that are dealing with it are absolutely swamped. Emails to the advertised support addresses seem to garner no reply at all.

Q's from a PC veteran switching to mac this week (hopefully)

1. I wont get my iMac for a few days, and not before the 7th, can I buy and download the bundle onto a PC, or does it expect me to have a Mac, in which case can I buy and download a few days later onto the Mac?

2. Wiretap. Could I really use that to record anything as long as its playing, such as, for example BBC radio broadcasts which can be problematic to intercept on a PC even with apps that are meant to be able to record "anything"? What other, if any, apps have similar functionality on mac already? Anything built in? Would wiretap be overkill just to capture streaming audio?

YES- you can buy/download them all to your PC without any problems and install them once your iMac arrives (congrats btw)... so take advantage of this deal...

and YES... WireTap is AMAZING (although not the only one app of it's kind out there) it can record anything (from anything streaming to skype conversations)... anything playing on your mac. Audio Hijack is another app that does the same thing, but much more expensive (and not to mention WireTap Pro). The mac hasn't got this functionality built in, and no (it's no overkill imo): Wiretap is just fine for this- not too big or complex, but not too limited, and it can edit/export audio too.

cheers! and ...and if you do, consider this referral link... http://www.macheist.com/bundle/u/272682/ PM me if you do: I'll give away the Pop-Pop Arcade, MacPilot and all the Koingo games. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can download them in your PC and install them later.

All the apps... 18 in total (that is, all in the bundle + the 2 twitter bast apps + 2 bonus apps + free Eventbox) are ca. 491 MB download.

There was an update to Eventbox during MacHeist. In order to update, go back to Macheist.com and redownload Eventbox. Then, replace your old version with the newly downloaded one. The update was a new Twitter API, so they are allowing Macheisters to re-download for free (just don't use the "update" function in the app.

Why are so many of you negative toward this bundle? The majority of us are happy, and we are getting a bargain for the applications we want. The developers are happy because they are getting some cash for apps they "MAY" never have had sold too. I already had some, but it was worth it to score BoinxTV (WHICH IS NOT A CUT DOWN VERSION). Because of that, I got to play with Times and I love it! I am also having fun with the Chef program. So, if so many of us that are buying it are enjoying it, what are the real reasons for some of you slagging off at it?

We do donate 25% of all purchases. The reason why the numbers are slightly deflated is because many of our customers have earned some additional discounts over the past few months, participating in and completing MacHeist missions.

How can you possibly "crunch numbers" when you don't even know what the "numbers" are. The bundles cost $39 for those that did not involve themselves in the missions. People paid from a minimum of $31 to a maximum of $39. There were severals games that awarded discounts ...up to a max of $8 bucks off. For example, I paid $37 because I got $2 off for completing one of the games. I missed most of the beginning missions because I was working too much.

This Last Heist has been going on for 2 months. It is not all about the bundle. If you go to the website and look at the posts in the forums you will see many if not most people have a couple thousand points -It means they have participated almost fully with the whole shebang.

Please, don't go accusing people of a rip-off before you investigate or at least ask someone! Jeez Louise! Get it? It is 25% of what was paid not $39.

World of Goo - AWESOME game
PhoneView - Use your iphone for storage

The Hit list - Great for organizing ideas/ planning things out
Espresso - Incredibly powerful web editor
Times - Absolutely awesome RSS reader

As a sorta-recent switcher (Feb 07), I can't seem to recall if any group or group of developers ever did this thing on the PC/Windows side. It's nice to see the Mac community doing a service as a whole (on both sides, consumer and developer), probably because we're "cooler" and can afford it since we already paid "Apple tax." (I'm, of course, being sarcastic and referring to the recent commercials that don't shed the proper light on the whole Mac/PC debacle).

I plunked down the $39 last night using the MacRumors link (thanks for everything, Arn) and I can't wait to tinker with some of the goodies this week. It's all about finding a need for some of these programs now! ;)

For example, here's the link to Highdefdigest's Blu-ray reviews:

This doesn't display correctly in Times, nor does the Rotten Tomatoes feed. Am I missing something? I'd like to buy this pack of stuff, but Times is my main reason for doing so!

World of goo is marvellous, I'm digging delicious library ( even if you have to tweetpimp to get that ), as I've got a big collection so anything to help make some sense of it is good. Sous chef could be interesting to the average joe too if got a laptop, one should be cooking more after all.

Personally for me wiretap studio is handy too, just being able to easily record from an individual programs output for some thing is something I've occasionally wanted to do.

The rest, I'll explore them and make mind up if I have any use or not, multiwinia is another thing I've been interested in, and now I get to try it effectively for free after the other apps I was interested in taken into account of.

I can see possible uses for littlesnapper too, and acorn I'll give a whirl to see if its usefull enough for the odd casual bit of editing I need.

I've just had a prod, and it is indicating error on trying to download the full article for some reason, It's done this to me on a few sites too. the helpfile suggests reporting the non working feeds to the developer so he can try and fix the app to work with them, don't know how likely this is though? but worth a shot, and it does look like a fairly slick app otherwise.

you can set it to open the article in safari for feeds that don't work currently though.

OK, Mr Pedantic :p

What I meant was the feature of Wire Tap products that I would buy the program for I already have catered for by Audio Hijack Pro - functionally it does exactly the same thing; record system audio. Like comparing Safari and Firefox; at the end of the day they both browse the web. If they were paid for apps I wouldn't buy both.

Incidentally, a large part of that comparison is just waffle about differences in the respective interfaces and very little to do with real functionality differences between the two programs. He does point out some valid differences, many of which are moot in my case, as I know exactly what format I want to record to and what bitrate etc.

As such, as far as I'm concerned, Wire Tap products have nothing to offer me that I don't have already. That said I now own WTS as part of the bundle anyway...

Right now Im on my powerbook and I have a mac pro coming thursday. I want to buy this bundle and I am just wondering how it all works. Do you download it after you buy it and then you get serials to put in? So I could buy and download it today and then just install it on my new mac pro when it comes? Am I correct with assuming this?

You could download it today or wait until Thursday when your Mac Pro arrives. You will get an email with the serial numbers, as well as being able to access them on the MacHeist site. So you can enter them later.

If you are planning to install only on the Mac Pro, I would just wait until it arrives.

how do I figure if I have gotten two referrals yet or not! Anyone knows?

or do the apps appear automatically on bundle receipt page once two of them are in?

They would appear on the look page, though it seems they've disabled live updating of referals to ease server load in the final countdown.

Cool, but cant get kinemac to register.

The link in the email opens a blank txt file.
The link from the receipt page gives a file...but when in the app folder the program still opens as demo???

What gives?

Other than that Im excited about wiretap and my kid and me are into world of goo as well. :D

Would be nice to play with kinemac (not in demo mode)

Why are so many of you negative toward this bundle? The majority of us are happy, and we are getting a bargain for the applications we want. The developers are happy because they are getting some cash for apps they "MAY" never have had sold too. I already had some, but it was worth it to score BoinxTV (WHICH IS NOT A CUT DOWN VERSION). Because of that, I got to play with Times and I love it! I am also having fun with the Chef program. So, if so many of us that are buying it are enjoying it, what are the real reasons for some of you slagging off at it?

I personally always try to avoid people whose ethics I find to be dubious, but that's just me.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your apps - I'm not replying here to get at you - but the issues with MH in the past are well documented and have been covered in the Mac news sites and some general IT news too, and some people don't want to have anything to do with them.

That's our choice you know, just as its yours to go ahead and purchase.

How long did it take everyone to receive your Delicious Library license? That's the one that I dove right into, but I could only add 25 items until they give me the code.

This bundle is well worth the $39, even if it is stuff that I may not have bought otherwise.

If I had not bought that app last year it would be my favorite in the bundle :P

Delicious is just so awesome, books, cds, and dvds, all of them scanned with art work!

I really don't understand the mentality of people voting negative on this at all. It's a great bundle, and so worth the money if you need one or two of the apps.

I'm loving Delicious Library and Wiretap Studio the most, but I'm sure I'll try out all the apps - that is half the fun to me, you get to try full versions of apps you might never have bothered with otherwise.

After giving it some thought, I've decided not to take the plunge...there's nothing really useful in there for me...and this whole thing about "twitters" and "referrals" sounds too fishy or spammy for a software bundle...so no, thanks.

Go to www.macheist.com, and click view my receipt in the top right corenter. Scroll down to Kinemac on your receipt, and click the Registration File.txt link. It should work there.

Thats what I had to do, because the link in my email didn't work either.

If you just want the bundle all you need to do is buy it, to get the offer known they offer a free app for one referal and a suite of apps for 2. Also for posting a link on your twitter you revice another 2 free apps, nothing too unreasonable about that...

This really is a great deal. The inclusion of World of Goo, Multiwinia, and Delicious Library 2 together make this worth the price. And if the whole "twitter" thing sounds fishy to you, just do what I did; start an account with a false name, follow the instructions, then forget the account exists. For that you get Multiwinia and Delicious Library 2, both fantastic apps.

I also really like SousChef. I can't wait to play around with the rest of them.

EDIT: Got 2 referrals, so the link has been removed. Thanks guys. Now, if I could only figure out where to get my referral rewards. There is no "loot" section.

Some great applications in this bundle. I am not planning on using all of them, but definitely feel that I got my monies worth. A "thank you" goes out to the developers for participating in this event and to MacHeist for donating some of the proceeds. All around, this was a great purchase.

I would love to buy it, but can't see anything useful in the bundle...does anyone care to tell me what is REALLY interesting in it for ordinary users?

Since I do not know your interests or needs, I cannot tell you what would be REALLY interesting for you or any other user. Look at the apps, read the descriptions, and decide if it is worth $39 to you. If you really want to, since some are shareware, download them and try it out before you buy. Its really that simple.

I have passed on other MacHeist Bundles in the past because I either owned the apps that would cause me to purchase the bundle, or I just wasn't that interested in any of them to spend the $$. Sounds like you might be in the latter boat, and if so, just take a pass. You are not missing out on anything if there is nothing in the bundle you will actually use. Me, this is the first MacHeist bundle I have actually purchased because there are at least 3 of these apps I see using on a regular basis.

Wasn't sure if I needed anything in this bundle but went ahead and bought it.
After downloading apps, I am still not sure if I needed anything in this bundle.

Out of the 16 Apps I got, only 7 worked on my computer (G5 iMac with Tiger), 3 of them are games and I don't play games:(.

The only app I think I'll use is Phoneview. I paid $39 for a $19.95 App...

The fact that several of the apps require Leopard should not be a surprise. If you click on each of the apps on the MH page and look under the screen shots at the right, you will see some requirements there.

Perhaps you will upgrade to Leopard at some point and be able to use all of the applications.

So thank you to whomever used my referral code.

For any independent web designer people out there (especially in college and can't afford/doesn't want to download Dreamweaver) Espresso could be well worth the price alone being $80 normally.

Anybody who's used CSSEdit, the most ridiculously awesome CSS editor ever, can guess how easy and fresh an HTML, Javascript, etc. editor by the same guys will be.

And if you're like me you'll want World of Goo as well! Don't forget that 25% of purchases go to charity so help your fellow man while you helping yourself.

Now a somewhat shameful self-promotion: Buy It Through Here! (http://www.macheist.com/bundle/u/316633/) or be super cool and support MacRumors link.

Wouldn't have been a surprise if I'd bothered to check all the individual application requirements. I didn't bother, as I've bought a few of these bundles from MacHeist or MacUpdate, and at most, I've only had one or two Leopard apps.
I was going to put off buying leopard as, so far, Tiger has worked fine.
Maybe I'll just have to upgrade.
Is Leopard that different that it is difficult to write apps for?

Will they accept prepaid credit cards? Also, do I download the apps all at once, or do I download off of each respective site?

I just wanted to let you know that you have plenty of time to get your apps registered! I wish I would have waited on doing so because you may want to TRADE any app you already have or don't need. There is a trading app thread in the MacHeist forums. After the app is registered it is up to the developer if they will transfer the license.

I knew I would not use the iPhone app bc -SURPRISE! - I don't have an iPhone...

I was so fired up after I bought the bundle that I immediately downloaded everything one night and registered everything the next night. THEN I found out about the trading options. There are a lot of MacHeisters with extra apps...I still have not managed to register Kinemac but will wait a few days.

Also, if you have any problems with licensing - don't worry. Wait until the HUBBUB is over tonight...and go to the support pages. Each app has a separate support page. And there is another forum to discuss the apps to help you figure out how to use them.

BTW The servers are or were overloaded just before I posted this so if you are trying to buy the bundle in the last couple hours KEEP TRYING!

AND store your receipt that you receive via email in a safe place. There will also be a copy on the MacHeist front page to make things easier for awhile...
