Hello,

the default encoding settings (importing) for iTunes released before 8.1 was 128 , so I used to changed that manually to 256Kbps and import and encode music with this settings

after iTunes 8.1 was released the default settings changed to iTunes Plus which is 256Kbps

I have encoded the files (from a Apple lossless) with my manual settings (itunes before 8.1) and then did it again after the release of 8.1 the size of the files are different for the same song from the same source! the files from the iTunes 8.1 is always bigger!

here is an example http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2871/picture10fpf.png

any explanations?

cheers

I'd check the VBR settings too, seems the most likely explanation.

Another difference could be in the metadata - maybe there is bigger album art in one set of files than the other (or does iTunes now not put it in the file itself - sorry I forget)?
