Hello,
I am running 2.2 on an jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3g. I recently have been getting a white screen every now and then and feel that a restore would be good for the phone. I am wondering if someone can tell me the best way to restore my phone. Is it possible to do so without locking it again?
Also, is it possible to upgrade to 2.2.1 yet? If so, can someone tell me or point me in the right direction on upgrading my phone to that? I lived in Seattle before and payed someone to unlock it with 2.2, I don't live there anymore and my sources are very limited, if I could learn to do it myself, that would be great!
Thanks,
I hope to hear back soon! I'd love to do a restore tonight or sometime soon!

I'd like to do a restore where I didn't know have to rejailbreak it. I'm not sure how to jailbreak a phone as I didn't do it myself. I bought my phone unlocked and jailbroken.

If you need it unlocked, I suggest you don't restore to a stock firmware. Otherwise, I would use Pwnage Tool in Expert Mode to jailbreak a 2.2.1 firmware that won't upgrade your baseband.
If you didn't understand anything I just typed, either don't do it, or do some extensive research. :)

This is the best step-by-step guide for what you want to do. Read it carefully before you start:

Note the point that you mustn't restore to 2.2.1 via iTunes, otherwise you will permanently lock your phone.

I just want to be sure on this. If I restore my 3G iPhone through iTunes, it will automatically upgrade it to a baseband where I cannot unlock it again?

You can choose which firmware you restore to by using Shift-Restore

Sorry to sound so lame but I need to be positive of what to do before I start pushing buttons as I don't want to lose the option of unlocking my phone down here in Mexico.
I connect my iPhone to my Mac
Open iTunes
Then click Restore while holding down the shift key?
Does an option appear?
Which do I choose?
I'd deeply appreciate it if you could please walk me through this.
Then once restored to a version that is unlockable, do I just reinstall Cydia and then yellowsn0w?
Thanks again for your patience.

I believe it is Option-Restore on the Mac, then you get to choose your ipsw firmware file. Don't choose 2.2.1 unless it is a custom Pwnage version that preserves the baseband from 2.2.0.
If you don't understand what I've said, you're probably better off to leave things alone.

Do I need to download a version of 2.2.5? I have tried several sites with no luck. Now stuck with my phone in DFU mode in Mexico. Is there a tutorial somewhere?

Assuming that you mean 2.2.0, you can get it here:
