It is indeed all for a good cause. Our cause it to take the mac to the top of the leaderboard! ;)

We're not going to be passing speedguide today though. We'll be shooting by them in about 4 days, most likely.

we should clinch the # 18 spot in 3 days on 04.22.04, at 10pm (according to this: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.php?s=&t=3446).
Unfortunately our fellow Mac folders at Team MacOSX will zoom by us in a couple months, unless we get some serious extra power online.

So keep folding and get someone else to fold for team 3446!

Of course there is! If we get some front page exposure after we pass the next team I am sure that will really boost our performance, it seams we get about 100 new users and then 50 stay,50 uninstall. We need some members to step up and get more points too, I have something I am working on that has the potential to REALLY boost our points!

Heresy!!!

we will remain the #1 Mac Folding Team period.
i just added a 4th machine today, a 2.6ghz Pentium 4
in the next month i'll add another 2.4ghz Pentium 4, and possibly a 733mhz Pentium 3 and/or an Athlon 1ghz.
sure they are pc's but desperate times call for desperate measures... and the only thing they'll be doing is Folding.

yea.... that'll hold em off..

and you better beleive if (heaven forbid) Team Mac OS X does pass us for 1 second, i'll make the last stand with CompUSA's display G5's all set to 3446.

Yeah it seems we get a temporary boost for like 1-2 WU and then they suddendly die down.

Next time we are mentioned on the front page we really need some links to the programs and to tell them to how and why they should join the team and why to KEEP running the program.

Really, 1/2 retention (I think its more like 1/3) is horrible -- Horrible.

We need to do better.

we will remain the #1 Mac Folding Team period.

With an attitude like that, maybe we can. ;)

But what I was trying to say was that when new G5s are released, Team Mac OS X will probably add some to their team, and we probably will too. The release will help us mac teams competing against PC teams, but not really help MacRumors.com competing against the other mac teams, because they, too, will add G5s to their teams as well. Unless, of course everyone at Macrumors decides to get a new G5 when they come out... ;)

But, I'm confindent that we still have plenty of time to get our daily production higher and remain the #1 Mac Team.

Nice work. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Stanford has re-done how they figure points, and the machine they use for a reference. The bottom line is that Tinkers are now worth more points. They are also using a P4 to calculate points. Athlons do better on Tinkers compared to P4s, so if you are using Athlons, you should not use the -advmethods flag, and instead welcome as many Tinkers as you can get. Tinkers are still a bad deal for G4s and G5s since they lack Altivec optimization.

My Pentium box hasn't been able to submit a completed Tinker WU for the last 2 days.

the lines read
- Couldn't send HTTP request to server

(171.64.122.143:8080)
- Error: Could not transmit unit 04 (completed April 20). Keeping unit in queue.

and then it goes on to continue folding protein: p1006_ppg10_pfold

You can usually check the value of each work unit at psummary.html (http://folding.stanford.edu/psummary.html).
Your's isn't listed at the moment (unless I've just missed it), but my guess would be that it's worth in the region of 138 points.

Good luck with the remaining 50%.

I've decided to actually put my dual 1.8 Ghz G5 to some practical use and join the folding team.

Is there any way to utilise the dual processors under screensaver mode.

I think it's only available via the terminal version.

Welcome to the team. :)

AFAIK, there is not dual processor screensaver client available. The console version is really much better optimized since it doesn't use any graphical resources, and you don't need to worry about it running all the time since it only uses idle CPU cycles - it should not conflict with your programs.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

I can't answer #1 for you, but I can answer #2 - the work server is experiencing heavy load right now, and is frequently refusing connections. You'll just have to try again later.

As for #1, -advmethods makes sure you download the newest cores/units (typically Gromacs). Check out the console install info page for a complete list of the switches and their functions.

http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/console-userguide.html

Make sure you look at the forceasm switch for 3DNow optimization on your Athlon.

For an Athlon, it's faster to use the -forcesse switch, rather than relying on 3DNow.

Mav451> to use the -advmethods switch, go to your startup folding (start > programs > startup), and bring up the properties for folding@home 4.00. Where it says Target: "c:\program files\etc etc....", add the -advmethods switch at the end. ie. "c:\program files\etc etc..." -advmethods

You can add as many switches as you want.

That's Gromacs. We're only about 5000 points behind the other team. I'm quite surprised because my daily average is hovering around 100 points per day--which is nearly my highest of 106 ppd. We're getting close but we've got teams coming up quickly too.

You may or may not have noted this line in the FAQ:
Q: Where can I find statistics for my contribution to the team and our position relative to other F@H teams?
A: There are several places you can find statistics:
http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/stats.html
Extreme Overclocking (http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overview.php?TeamID=3446)
MacNN Stats (http://teamstats.macnn.com/fold/stats.php?page=b1&TID=3446)

Please allow some time for your work units (WUs) to register in the Stanford server.

You double-check your config file to make sure your name and team # are right, but if they are it's just a matter of time for Stanford to process your info and add you to the stats. I'd really recommend sticking with the console for optimum performance.
