Best hometown ever.
I've been to Hell, Grand Cayman ... but never ****ing, Austria.
We had a vote last year on whether to rename the town, but decided to keep it as it is. After all, ****ing has existed for 800 years, probably when a Mr **** or the **** family moved into the area. The 'ing' was added as a word for settlement.[4]

I like the caption under the picture of the ****ing Sign.
The frequently stolen traffic sign, at the entrance to the village of ****ing.

What's the problem with using this location name if it is legit? Is there something inherently wrong with 'that' word? I can see not letting the use of swear words to get out of hand, but this is the guy's home town for christ's sake.

Seriously? It's automatically censored using vBulletin software, which unfortunately lacks the intelligence to determine when words of this nature are being properly used.

It is weird that there are 104 citizens of that town and one of them is a member of Macrumors.
what are the odds?

what are the odds?
Assuming the world population is 6,706,993,152 (http://www.google.com/search?&q=world+population&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8), the odds of a MacRumors member being a resident of ****ing, Austria are 1.6 × 10^-8.
See, that's a pretty large number!

I thought you were an American! Did you move to Austria at some point? Or are you just Austria-ing around with us? :p

There's a similar problem with Sc*nthorpe, although having that place censored as offensive does seem strangely appropriate.

The extra tourist money from English speaking tourists has to far offset replacing those fu***** signs.
And I am sure replacing those signs all the time gives somebody there a fu***** job.

When I saw Austria, I figured...HEY thats not to far away, I should check it out (and pick up a nice street sign while I'm at it ;) ).
...
It's still 700 kms away. To far for my wee legs. :(
But seriously, 104 residents and at least one of them is a macrumors member. Thats delicious!

It probably all started when someone wanted to go to Australia as it was summer down there and winter up in the northern hemisphere, ended up in Austria, and stated they they didn't want to go to "********** Austria as they were sick of the winter".
Given the town is 800 years old and Europeans have only been visiting Australia for around 600 or so and named it much more recently, we can assume there were some very poor navigators back then :)

I don't know much about vBulletin, but can't they override censoring of the city-state combination while still allowing censoring of "*********"?

When I had mentioned on another forum that I was flying to Berlin, someone asked me why don't I drive it, it's close to St. Louis and it would be cheaper than flying. This is the Berlin they were talking about (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=berlin,+missouri&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=VJfgSfqwKonwMpCisYIJ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1). The town is so small that it's not even labeled on Google Maps!

Lol awesome! I wouldn't class it as a town though.
Oh and OP you could always prove you live there by taking a pic with your forum name beside it written on a card. Considering the population isn't that big, I can't think it will be a long walk from your house to the outside of town.
