I'm looking around for a USB flash drive stick that is fast enough to run OS X off of it. So I'm thinking an 8GB or 16GB, but any idea on what is a good speed? I've tried it out already on a USB stick I just had lying around, but it runs pretty slow. What's the fastest flash drive out there right now?

Any ideas? Thanks!

P.S. I'm considering this one (http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-Rally2-Channel-Flash-OCZUSBR2DC-16GB/dp/B000ZGX3P8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top).

The Flash Voyager GT is pretty fast.

Not sure how fast an os will run off it but this is the quickest one I've used. Really durable too:

Your limiting factor is probably the usb2 bus though. I can't imagine it being well suited to run an os through.

If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure OS X can't be run of a USB device, only FireWire. You might want to look into a FireWire external hard drive.

Intel's are USB bootable.

Intel's are USB bootable.

So are some PPC machines.

Intel Imac's are definatly USB bootable. I just cloned my harddrive to upgrade it and booted off the USB version to make sure it was a good copy before I pulled the drive to swap.

Do you plan on booting OSX alot off the usb drive? wouldnt the page files ruin the drive after awhile?

I would suggest considering an external FW hard drive.

It will be much faster, and will enable you to clone your internal HD. A nice way to make a backup.
