This email program is driving me crazy!!!
I have had nothing but problems and have spent hours in the last year
with tech support .......finally it is okay in its operation except it
no longer wants to eliminate junk mail. I have had it in training......
no good.....on automatic.........no good. I get all the same junk emails
over and over and over.
Any suggestions?

WOW!! apple sure plans ahead with their OSes... maybe it's an early bug in Mac OS X House Cat???
but really, have you tried repairing your permissions or maybe rebuilding your mailbox (Mailbox --> Rebuild Mailbox) just some guesses...

I have repaired permissions many, many, many times and have used Diswarrior but I have not rebuilt the mailbox........what are the side
affects and what is the procedure.
Its 10.2.8

You should just upgrade to Panther.
Everything, including mail, works better.

Sorry I do not have a spare $120 laying around the house besides
it should not cost that kind of money to fix an e mail program

rebuilding the mailbox erases the old index and rebuilds it... go to that mailbox and in the mailbox menu select "rebuild"... try that for all of your mailboxes... don't expect this to work... i'm just suggesting things... also try going to your junk mail preferences and select "reset"

I reset the junk filter as you suggested but the rebuild is grayed out.
Now what?
