with ddr ram and a 1.2 ghz g4 processor, the ibook can't be that shabby...but wait for the speedmark results

in the last array of results from previous gen laptops, the powerbooks were all faster than all the ibook models

The Mobility 9700 is 25% faster than the Mobility 9600. The 9700 is a heck of a lot faste rthan the 9200 in the iBook. So that answers some wuestions about GUI speed and responsiveness.

A 5400RPM drive will also be noticable faster than a 4200 RPM drive.

The front side bus speed is also 25% this will be very noticeable in memory intensive applications.

And finally, the processor is also 25% faster. However this will probably be the least noticeable difference. It may translate to 10% speed difference for most applications.

I guess your real question should be, do you want the Powerbook features enough to shell out the extra money? You also get a backlit keyboard.

If you decide on the Powerbook, you should order the memory as a single stick, so you have a slot free to add more memory if you need or want to later.
