Hi,
Seen quite a few people having trouble with strange noise coming from bottom part of the new Mac Pro 2009.
Attached a close mic recording of what mine sounds like... anyone recognize the sound?

What Mac Pro do you have (all the people with noise issues seem to be running 2.26 octos) ? My 2.93 Quad is noisy at startup but after startup, no noise at all.
Note - Some people are saying that the superdrive is noisy. When I get a chance to rip a DVD, I'll see how noisy the superdrive is.

My new 2.6 quad MP makes a clicking noise and produces an audible hum and vibration during the spin up and reading of CD's that can be partially eliminated by pressing down on the top of the MP. It also seems to struggle reading certain CD's. DVD's don't seem to be a problem. Never had this problem with another superdrive. Maybe I just have a bad one, but based on some of the other comments, these superdrives could be one of the major sources of the noise/hum/vibration noted in other postings.
Otherwise a flawless machine; quiet as a church mouse. Much quieter than my old G4 and dual 2.0 G5.

Ok that was beyond hilarious! Seriously, awesome. :D
OP, that isn't right. I don't have the most recent MP but I can say my 2008 MP doesn't make such a noise.

My 2.66 Quad does the same thing. It makes that same clicking noise and when you tip the Mac Pro or push on top of it, it stops the sound.
I am wondering of I should try to get it repaired or is that normal? Also are there quieter superdrives you can buy to install in the second tray?
What are some suggestions?
