MPEG Streamclip 1.2 : Converting MMV to MP4; Why is video and audio jumpy ?

I'm trying to convert MMV to MP4. I sucessfully create the MP4 with the video and audio in synch, but the video is jumpy and the audio drops in / out when the video jumps (stops and starts and stops again and skips etc).

I'm new to Streamclip and am not familiar with settings that could help me.
