.Mac address with a new MobileMe subscription?

Being the "macophile" that I am have I've just bought a refurb'd Mini for my girlfriend and I to use as a media centre when we move in together later on this year and have decided that it would be a great idea to have a joint MobileMe email address to use for things like iTunes etc [I can almost here you cringe as I type :p].

If I register a new MobileMe subscription will I be able to give our email address out as xxxx.xxxx@mac.com or does it have to be xxxx.xxxx@me.com? I know that with my current MobileMe subscription I can use either .mac or .me, but that was registered way back in the days of .Mac and I'm not sure whether it would still be applicable.
