Hi everyone... Do you have this experience before whereas the top of the iMac get very hot sometimes?

It's usual. Download iStat from here (http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html). Post us the temperatures so we can see how hot it really is.

surprisingly that my ram usage left so little free memory where as I did not open up so many programs...

here is my temp stats for now...

I think your numbers are looking pretty good. I wish my hard drive temp was ever that low. And as for the RAM, you're OK there, too...read this for more info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342

Inactive RAM is also "free". I was scared that first but then I looked more carefully and saw that inactive RAM too

I recommend you use the advanced RAM setting. Page outs vs. page ins give you a better idea on how your RAM is performing for your use.

Your temps are just fine ... nothing to worry about ..

maybe someone else who don't want their iMac anymore and drill some holes :D

All-In-One systems will get hotter than just "towers"

Your temps seem fine
you may notice a problem if your Fans are always running very hard, fast and loud

The top gets hot because its made of aluminum, which is a good conductor of heat. As Martha Stewart would say, "This is a good thing."

so I have no way to avoid this problem?
how can I know my fans are running hard?? by viewing through istats?

If there is a problem you will hear the Fans, they can get very loud

Why? They get loud when you actually use your CPU. If you don't use your CPU what was the point of the iMac?

Well, dust buildup in the very compact iMac case over time can cause heat issues which in turn lead to the fans running at higher RPMs. Yes, you can vacuum near the intake and exhaust vents but that is not getting dust from the center of the case near the CPU/GPU fans.

Among the many reasons I wish the iMac cases were still easily user-accessible like the iMacs of old would be to have the ability to clean out the dust buildup in an effective manner.

I'm talking about constant high rpm fan noise, not just under stress

They never have a constant high RPM. The fan speed is actually very low normally and only 1200 RPM. If you do have a problem with the fan speeds it would probably be fixed with a SMC/PRAM reset and or a trip to the Apple Store for repair. If repair isn't possible you can probably detect faulty fans with your Apple Hardware Test and do it yourself. Using SMCFanControl while maxing out the fan RPM while blowing in compressed air from the bottom should help get out dust. Though my house is extremely dusty and my aluminum iMac from 2007 is still fine. You shouldn't have to worry about this problem.

the top of my imac (left hand side) gets really really hot especially after I play WoW for a few hours. I think the copper sink conducts the heat from the cpu/gfx card etc there so it is like the hottest spot on the imac.

I am considering using smcfancontrol to bump the fan speed up while I am playing games.

Otherwise, the imac is warm but not too hot.
