Hey guys I'm new to the Mac world and I was wondering if you could tell me some things that a Mac can do that a Windows machine can't.

Thanks:D

Besides run OS-specific software, they can both do the same things in different ways.

Exactly... it is less about "what" and more about "how"

ah thanks

Edit:
But what if I want to play something like Half-life 2 or Halo?

Then... play it. There is a Mac version of Halo and a Cider port of Half-Life 2.

If you want to play the Windows version of Half-Life 2 or the Windows version of Halo 2, then just run Windows on your Mac.

You want something that a Mac can do that Windows can't? How about something Windows can do that a Mac can't:

Install software on its own, in the background, without you knowing. :D

I commend your... oh, let's say... originality.

However, if you're going to troll our forum, please pick a topic that would actually incite rage or controversy into our community. This was a poor attempt at riling us up.

In other words, leave it to the professionals, kiddo. And turn on Private Browsing in Safari for all your /b/ related (depraved) needs.

Ok, people seem to be avoiding the question by saying stuff like 'they can both do the same things in different ways' instead of saying 'macs can't do anything windows can't'.

I'm not with him and i have a macbook pro so i'm not slating macs, i just don't think you should be trying to defend them if you can't think of anything they can do which windows can't, you just just be honest and say that.

I believe garageband to be better than any windows application of the sort, and it comes as standard on every mac so i'm going to say 'music-making out of the box'. It's a fantastic app.

Photo organising. I don't think there's a windows application for that by default, and if there is then there isn't any as advanced as iPhoto, although you can get Google's one (i forgot its name).

In terms of video editing, i wouldn't say macs are better and i prefer adobe premiere to final cut pro so 'advanced movie editing' isn't a feature macs have over windows.

On the other side of the coin, i think windows definitely has tops on its ability to play games. Yes, there are these little complicated work-arounds you can use on macs but basically, you can't install games on a mac just like you would install any other app or without a work-around. Windows is definitely better at that.

Hope this helped. :)

Using Parallels you can run Windows and OSX apps on your Mac at the same time :)

but the other replies are correct. It's how it does it - not if it can or cannot.

Functioning for months at a time without deteriorating. If I didn't have to update the system software or applications, I would never have to restart my Macs.

-Spotlight.

As a search tool its very impressive. gets what you want easily, and categorises the results sensibly.

Windows has a search, and yes it will happily find stuff, but you have to be very specific to get a quick result.

-Spell Check

With my poor spelling I'm finding the "always on" feature of the mac spell check both very useful and very frustrating at the same time! To have the same spell check standard across all the software that I use is also handy.

- Expose
Certainly not on XP, no idea about vista?

-Spaces.
Again not on XP, no idea about vista?
Not particularly "new" though, been in the unix/linux world for years, and it reminds me of BeOS

How do I shoop whoop on Mac?

Firstly its called Shoop Da Whoop.

Secondly, Final Cut Pro can help you with this, but it comes with a 12+ intelligence rating, so it might not be for you.
