eliminate glare in photoshop

My brother's boss is about to get a book published. Unfortunately, the publisher screwed up on the jacket photo - and the photo they chose has glare on the author's glasses. The publisher claims that they can't do anything to fix this - but I've seen photoshop wizards remove worse glare before. Basically I need to demonstrate that this is feasible.

I've played around with photoshop a good deal but I'm in no way an expert. I just can't figure out how to solve this problem. I've tried lightly using the burn tool with some success, but mostly I just make a mess. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is there a piece of software or a plugin that will do this?

A little bit of cloning, a little dodging and burning, some duplication of the other eye...some blending and erasing. Heck, use the paintbrush and paint it back in. There's no software that I'm aware of, just patience.

I know this really is not an answer to your questions, but why don't you choose a different photo or retake that photo? If you still have time to "fix" the photo then you should have time to "change" the photo.


Now for my Photoshop idea....
Do you have a pic of him without the glare? If you do make a new lawer and copy the part of his eye that the glare blew out. Then add another lawer and "replace" the glass in front of it. Somehow you are going to need to get the data that was replaced by the glare back.

This only took me 10 minutes. It's not perfect but it can show you what's possible with a little patients.
