I am looking for a nice fast prime. I am mainly going to be using this for concert photography as a hobby. I see most people love their "nifty fifty" but it seems a majority of users are using crop bodies so 50mm is roughly the equivalent of an 80mm lens on a full frame body. I am torn between the canon 50mm and the 85mm. Anyone with any experience with primes for concert photography have any opinions as to which would be a better option?

I currently have the 5d MKII and canon 16-35 2.8L II, 24-70 2.8L and 70-300 2.8L.

I just got the 50mm 1.8 for only $90. It's supposed to be a great lens for the price. Didn't get the chance to use it much yet. The couple of pics I did take the IQ was nice.

The 35mm will translate to 56 on a crop, though...

Look at your photo library. What focal length are you using. Is your 24-70 mostly used at 70mm or closer to 50. Buy what you seem to use the most.

I think you see so many 50mm lenses because they are inexpensive compared to the 85mm f/1.4

Do a sort on the focal length in Aperture or whatever you use and see which images you like best. You already have the both lengths covered with the zooms.
