DOH!!! There are no Ben and Jerry's in a 20 mile radius of our town!! Argh, any way this is a good idea, and the more exposure the better.

I'm in the same boat, there are no scoop shops anywhere near me.

I wish they had put the codes on their Ben & Jerry's pints! I buy at least one a week.

Gotta love Chocolate Chocolate Cookie! :p :)

but if they're taking the first 50,000 people... unless it's 50,000 in the whole country. in which case keeping track of how many have been given away could prove to be a chore.

Wouldn't it be great if Apple could do an event every year like that where you are like the first 500 to turn up with your iPod at an Apple store and they'd give you a free song?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S NOT A BEN AND JERRY'S IN TEXAS!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!

I mean c'mon they're getting rich from me eating "One Sweet Whirld" (Thank you DMB) I think I deserve a song for that.

Try being in Texas, where there appears to be no such store!!!

I think being in Hawaii surrounded by the pacific trumps that (but only slightly!)
:D

Anyways, I was just thinking the other day about why other companies have not gotten in on this act and had giveaways to iTMS as incentives for thier products. I hope this is a first in a long trend, it would be nice to continue gettting free tunes from iTMS by purchasing pepsi, or mcDs, etc.

Hopefully those 50,000 songs are distributed among the various US time zones; otherwise by the time 12pm rolls around in the western part of the country there might not be that many songs left to give out.

ONE measly free song?

according to macnn's news listing about it... you don't even have to go to the store in person...

"Users can visit the company's website on that day to take the "Oath to Vote" and receive a free song from the iTunes Music Store (on Monday, April 26th) as well as register for a chance to win a sweepstakes with the Grand Prize of an iPod, iMac and a trip to Vermont to spend a day as an honorary Ben & Jerry's Flavor Guru to create a batch of their own personal flavor. "

at least that's how i read it

but, on b/j's site, it still doesn't say anything exactly about itunes...

The free cone is if you visit a store.

The free song is if you visit the website and promise to vote in November as part of "Rock the vote". You don't have to live near a store to get a song.

These free iTunes promos are going to cause me to have long term health problems with all this Pepsi and ice cream I'm ingesting. Mmm...coffee Heath bar crunch. Someone's going to develop type 2 diabetes and sue Apple. ;)

Can't they have a "Run a mile, get a free song" promotion?

Apr 21, 2004, 03:37 PM
Great deal, though unfortunatley theres not a Ben & Jerry's close to me. Maybe I can sign up on the website.

Hopefully we will keep seeing these promos like this. It's great exposure to iTunes and the iPod, and it's great for consumers.

Win a trip to vermont? That sucks because I live in vermont :p. It would be cool to pick the flavors though.

There's a store like a block or 2 from my school, so I'll be hoping over there when I can :)

well, i work at ben and jerry's.... but it just happens to be one of the only three b and j's in canada, so no itunes for me, stupid country, i mean, GO HABS!

but hey, all you people complaining about the health risks of ben and jerry's ice cream... give chocolate fudge brownie frozen yogurt a shot. Everybody hears "frozen yogurt" and thinks, oh, well that's just gonna suck. But every customer i've ever suggested this flavour to has been amazed at how good it is. There's really no compromise at all, you can tell the difference between it and the ice cream version, not very easily though, and the difference isn't a bad difference anyways, its like, more refreshing. And the beautiful part... only 2 grams of fat per scoop, as opposed to about 15 or so for most of the regular ice creams.

So maybe iTunes canada will open up on the same day and free cone day will just kick it off.... except that the only ben and jerry's in canada are all in montreal.... meh, who needs toronto
GO HABS!

So first I will go to the Ben and Jerry's on Thayer st., then I will head towards the one in the mall. :)

As an ex-scoop shop employee, all I have to say is save the trip to the mall. Unlike Baskin Robbins, B and J doesn't care if you go through the line multiple times. Just make sure that if you do so, finish your first scoop before you get to the front of the line for your 2nd(3rd, 4th, etc)

I think it's cool that there are going to be stations that allow you to register to vote.

What mall do you visit? Why don't you like going to the fouth floor? Free ice cream makes it worth the effort.

It is the Providence Place mall. Im not much of a mall guy, so the only reason I go there is to see an occasional movie and go to movies. Also, the food court (where Ben and Jerry's) is always packed, ecspecially on the weekends. I agree that free ice cream is worth the extra effort. Now only if I had another excuse to go there...

I took the oath this morning. After I filled in all the information, it took me to a second page. It said that I was entered in a chance to win a free iTunes song, that I would be notified via E.Mail in 24 - 48 hours. Also a chance to win an iPod.

So....

I went to the Waterbury, VT Ben and Jerry's plant yesterday.

Lots of great, free ice cream.
NOTHING having to do with Apple or iTunes. :(
Major disappointment...offset by total indulgence in wonderful ice cream.

Congratulations Mudbug on winning a free song. What song did you download? I hope that more of us here on the forum will be winners also.

I don't think that I have much of a chance to win since it was after 11am yesterday to take the oath.

thanks - as for which song, I haven't decided yet. I buy music from the store pretty regularly now, especially since I got quite a few iTMS gift certificates for Xmas this past year. As I post new songs to www.dailytunes.com, I come across some that I've never heard, give them a listen, and if I like it, I'll buy it. :)
On a related note, when I clicked through to add the song to my account, it shows that I have 1 song & $9.58 in my account balance, instead of just adding the $$ value to my current balance. Since we've never seen even 1 Pepsi cap here, I wonder if those did this as well, since I have no personal experience. :(
As for your winning a song or not - you would have seen a screen like the one I've attached if you were eligible to win the song.

I bet if you give a fake US address when you fill out the form, as long as the e-mail is valid, you will get a code e-mailed to you.

Then, you should be able to setup an iTMS account using the code without a US based credit card. The kicker is once you have an account, you should also get access to the Tuesday free song give away promo.

Has anyone not in the US tried this?
