At the beginning of November I bought a 12" PowerBook from the Arlington, VA Apple Store (as I couldn't wait for the Tyson's store to finish remodeling...) I'm glad I bought it when I did, it has been a lifesaver.

yeah, I bought my dual 867 mhz Powermac G4 back in September of 2002, right when the MDD came out. I was going to buy a powerbook or an ibook, but the powermac just had so much more to offer, and that was the first time the low end had duals too! It was too good of a deal to pass up, along with my student discount.

First week of February 2004. Bought my 12-inch iBook G4 from the Apple online store.

Only regret is I don't have enough $$$ to buy a dual G5 PowerMac & 23-inch Apple display to go with it.

I bought my iMac in late Jan '04 and received it in early Feb '04. Other than a crashing problem I had when I got it, which was fixed with a trip to the Apple Store, I've been very happy with it.

MacWorld, January 2001. Bought my Rev. A PowerBook G4 500 mhz the day they were announced. It finally arrived sometime in mid April! :)

At just over 3 years old I'm really itching to upgrade, but trying to make it through one more upgrade cycle (don't I always say that.) Cost is a major factor right now as I'm getting ready to start law school and live off student loans and my savings. My next Apple will probably be an entry-level iBook. I'm hoping that as soon as the PowerBook goes G5 (which sadly i know I won't be able to afford) the iBooks will see a major bump.

January 2000, Power Mac G4 450 Sawtooth.

Has an ATi 8500 in it running dual 19 Diamondtrons, plus 1280MB of ram and it still chugs along nicely. Still does every thing I need except for portability, which is the direction I'll prolly go next. A cheap 12" iBook followed by a dual 3GHz soon after. :)

It's been quite a while since your last upgrade! Thinking of a new macine anytime soon? It's great to hear you're still making great use of your Pismo - and getting your money's worth! That's one of the many things I love about Macs - their longevity.

The length of time between your computer purchases seems to coincide with your name though - judging by your handle, do you not upgrade your game systems that often either? Still using a good old Atari? ;) :)

Technically, I buy a Mac every few months, but they're all used from my local university surplus store, 7x00, 8x00, etc.
The last Mac I bought that came in a new box directly from Apple was my Beige G3, the month before they were discontinued and the B&W systems shipped.
While it would have been nice to wait, I needed the system and I don't like to purchase first generation hardware. That's also why I'm awaiting this summer's PowerMac revision, got cash burning a hole in my pocket to get me a screamin' new dual.
G3/333 to G5/2x2. I wonder if I'll get any noticeable improvement in speed. :) I certainly am looking forward to booting from my iPod.

We got our last Mac almost three years ago, it was then time when Apple was offering a $300 discount on the CRT iMac, its a 700mhz G3 iMac, the fastest of the CRT breed of iMac. Of all places it came from CompUSA, but I doubt I will get my next computer from there.

I took the plunge 4 years ago with this very iMac (400Mhz DV/SE) sitting in front of me. I'm considering another purchase, but I'm waiting for apple to meet my unreasonable requirement that basically amounts to an upgradable iMac.
I may just have to buy non-Mac to accomplish something close, but not quite as satisfying as the real thing. :(

My older brother has the old Atari 800 now, but I don't think it gets much use these days. ;)

I've been thinking about getting one of the new PowerBooks... I do need a new computer, and I love the portability of laptops but they seem slow compared to the G5 desktops, and aren't a very good value when you compare them to the eMacs. Ah... decisions. :D

It's been almost two years since I bought my dual G4/800 and I've only regretted it twice: last year when the PowerMac G5s were introduced and when the 12 inch PowerBook was introduced.

My older brother has the old Atari 800 now, but I don't think it gets much use these days. ;)

I'd love to fire up an old Atari again - classic....

I've been thinking about getting one of the new PowerBooks... I do need a new computer, and I love the portability of laptops but they seem slow compared to the G5 desktops, and aren't a very good value when you compare them to the eMacs. Ah... decisions. :D

Yah, it's a quandry. Laptops are portable, yet not as powerful as desktops. And yes, they are more expensive then say, an eMac, however you're paying a lot for the portability factor, which in my mind is definitely worth more. Don't let it discourage you too much though - I tried out a 1.33 GHz 17" PowerBook when they first came out, and all things considered, they're pretty powerful - I'm sure the 1.5 Ghz is even better.

The fact of the matter is, if you want raw power, you need a desktop, and if you want portability, you sacrifice some of that power. I'm not saying that's right, or the way things should be in an ideal, perfect world, but, it IS the way things are right now and those are the factors you have to consider when purchasing a new system.

late september 2002 Dual 1.25 MMD 2MB L3 from the apple online store.

Right now it has 450GB internal storage with a 1 Gb of RAM and the ATI R9000 card.

Eventually it will have over a TB of storage, 2GB of RAM, M-audio revolution PCI card with a Klipcsh 5.1 ultra system, FW800 and USB 2 ports. 2 S-ATA drives inside. Dual Layer Superdrive and maybe a blu-ray burner if my mac can handle it. So next update should come right after the newest update following september of 2007 and I will hold onto my machine for as long as i can.

In July 2003, I bought my 12" PowerBook G4 (867Mhz.) I have, since then, acquired a beige G3 (233Mhz MT, memory upgraded to 384MB, USB card, and Radeon 7000.) The G3 was in exchange for computer tech support. (Helping set up a new [to them] Dual 1GHz Quicksilver with a 20" Cinema Display.)

I should be getting a Portable soon, as well as an LC II and a PM6500. (Those three would bring my Apple-computer count up to 34, with only three duplicates: three PowerBook 5300c's [although two are broken,] and two Quadra 700s.)

and I don't plan to.
But did buy MY latest Mac about a year ago (PB 17"), then, last October an iBook for my student son, last Monday an eMac for my student daughter.
So you see, I've done my bit, right?
Next I'm hoping to buy one share of Apple for my birthday.

Me too. It was my first Mac. I had actually ordered one of the newly announced 17" cinema iMacs but I got tired of waiting for it to ship. I brought a brand new MDD DP 867 home from CompUSA and cancelled my iMac order the next day. I have since added 768 MB of RAM, an 80 GB LaCie Hard Drive, a Superdrive, and I upgraded my display to a 20" cinema. Lucky for me my MDD has never had the fan noise problem and still has the original fan.

I bought my 450MHz G3 Yosemite in July 1999... just before the sawtooth cameout. Then I bought my 500MHz Pismo in Dec of 2000... just to see the TiBooks be announced shortly there after.

I still use both to this day. In fact I do my primary development work on my B&W; though it did get an 800MHz G3 and Radeon 7000 bump. Panther runs nicely on both.

Of late my powerbook's battery has gone completely dead. :( Hopefully (though not likely) I'll be able to afford a new mac soon. I may end up being forced to upgrade whenever Apple no longer supports my systems for the next upgrade. 10.3 ended the support for the generation prior to my B&W... *sigh*

I'm pretty happy with my PB G4, and I don't think I'm going to upgrade it until something really worthwhile comes out. I'll buy a PB G5 and either sell this one, or maybe use it as part of my 'digital hub' at home, as it seems Apple is never going to release this 'iBox' device that people have been talking about!

I'm currently using a 15" PowerBook G4 1.25GHz, thanks to work, but the last computer I actually purchased myself was a PowerMac 8600/250, with AppleVision (later, ColorSync) 750AV display.
