I've bought a Macbook, and now I was going to buy a Macbook Pro using my same student discount; I was wondering if apple would let me get 15% off the macbook pro, just like they did with my macbook.

Cheers if anyone knows.

You should be fine - I don't think they check. I bought an iMac, then a Macbook Air. After about 6 months, I ditched the Air on eBay and got a Alu Macbook. I think 3 purchases in 12-months exceeds the official policy, but I was very straight with the guy in the Apple store, he put it through and it was approved.

I would imagine that they have some mechanism in place to stop you buying lots of them e.g. for friends and family or to flip them.

This is off of Apple's terms and conditions for the education discount. http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=167206&stc=1&d=1239807502

I believe the official policy is one computer a year. Although I think that they sometimes make exceptions.

I bought an aluminum Macbook one day and an aluminum Macbook Pro the next, no problems at all.

I bought a MBP 9 months ago and recently bought a new Aluminum MB. The guy who checked me out only looked at my school ID. I don't think he even looked to see if it was actually me. Maybe the same could work for you.

they dont check to see it's you. I used my girlfriend's id to get my Uni-Macbook and they just check the school part. I have a school id i just didnt have it at the time.

Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per academic year

Software: A maximum of two (2) per software title may be purchased per academic year
Apple TV: There is no limit on the quantity of Apple TV purchases per academic year

Of course, they never actually check, so...

I've never had any problems with the limits - the sales reps on the telephone support have always said they'd just sell it anyway, regardless of what I've purchased that year, and the Apple Stores don't even seem to check.

As an example, in one academic year I purchased:

1x Xserve
2x Mac Pro
3x MacBook Pro
1x MacBook
1x AppleTV
4x iPod (various types)
5x Software (OS X, Aperture, iLife etc)
3x Cinema Display (2x 30" and 1x23")

So yeah, they don't care.

OMG! I would love to be able to even buy 1/3 of that stuff! Lucky you :D

I've bought 2 MacBook Pros, 2 MacBooks, a MacBook Air, 2 Mac minis. I think they care. FYI, those were also for other people.

How many times can you really do it?

A lot. Going to an Apple retail store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, they simply verify your student status and give you the pricing. There's no secret database of millions of people who have bought using their discount. You could get away with multiple purchases easily.

As many times as you like. I asked the sales person in my local Apple Store and the person on the phone when I ordered my MacBook, and they said that as long as you remain eligible you can buy as many computers as you like.

I'm sure there is some sort of condition about using it too many times, but for three or four computers a year I don't think they'll do anything to "investigate".

Not all of it was for me I must say. Fair bit was though. My partner and I both qualify for edu discount (PostGrad), but we generally just end up buying it on my "account".
