Hi folks,
My 1.5 yr old Mac book recently experienced the grey screen, and folder in the middle with a ? in the middle.
Well...as it turns out it needed a new hard drive. They could not get the hard drive to respond or even erase (something they tried before offering to replace it)
The apple store in Pioneer Place, Portland OR, replaced it.
Originally they stated that data could not be retrieved and it could take a thousand dollars to have someone do it...with no guarantee of retrieving my old files.
I was skeptical that it could be such a big thing, but I really needed it fixed and dropped it off to have it repaired. Trying to avoid complicating my life too much.
As it turns out, my buddy said the hard drive is very similar to the one he has in his Toshiba and he had no problem retrieving data with a USB and IDE connection.
I called the store to see if they might have the hard drive still sitting around a few days after the repair...but they said that likely it was already sent to the manufacture for recycling with other hard drives.
Is there any way...any hope...that I could get it back at this point from wherever it is going? Or, will it become a new Hyundai?
I wish the store would have offered to give it back. I understand they do not retrieve data, but I feel there should have been some kind of option?
Cheers,
DJ Kenny
