RAW+JPG vs. iPhoto JPG from RAW

If I'm managing my photos in iPhoto and shooting in RAW, is there any value at all to shooting RAW+JPG since iPhoto is apparently creating a JPG from the RAW file on import?
Is the JPG using RAW+JPG coming from the camera going to be of much higher quality than what iPhoto creates?

the jpg from the camera will have in-camera processing applied to it, which changes depending on your settings. the iPhoto preview won't.

i don't think there's any point in using RAW + Jpg.

RAW files actually have jpegs embedded within them, whether you shoot RAW+jpg or just RAW. These jpegs are used by a lot of photo editing applications for quick image previews.

I use a free plug-in to extract the embedded jpegs...

When I right-click on a folder of RAW files I have the option to generate a new folder of extracted jpegs. It's very quick - a fraction of a second per jpeg.

The jpegs have the in-camera settings applied to them
