Go check the archives, the polls aren't always Mac related.
Nevermind...Arn beat me to it
I really doubt that most people out there are neat.
I think most people think they are neat when they are really not.
Kinda like wishful thinking :)

I'll bite. Apple users are stereotyped as being neat freaks who care more about style than substance. This poll is a test of whether the stereotype reflects a real difference among Mac users. Of course, in order to know for sure, we'd have to run a similar poll over at winrumors.com :)
P.S. I made that site up. Looks like there's nothing there. Surely there's a PC equivalent to Macrumors, though. Anyone know of one?

Well, if you look at my room, it looks like some kind of nuclear war happened there. But if you look around my computer, it's very clean; so I'm sort of both.

ummm, stuff gets a bit sloppy then it gets cleaned. xample I have some school books on the floor in the corner. those should be gone in a few hours. Bed is still unmade, I'll fix that around 3. And all my clothes are hung up. So I guess neat but I'll let it go so long as Ieventually clean it.

I used to be very neat, bed made every day, organized all my stuff, everything lined up.
Then I joined the military and someone told me I had to do it that way. When I got out years later I rebelled. Now don't tidy anything. I just wait till it's out of control and go on a cleaning spree.
Messy 90% of the time

Messy! :p
However, once of the reasons is that when I do organize and clean up I like things to be perfect, which creates a barrier that makes it more difficult to go on an organizing spree.
My basement has been waiting for me to clear up for 4 months now! :D

If I was an an organization/neatness contest with Martha Stewart, I would clean her clock! I literally cannot function unless things are neat and organized. I've never been tested, but I'm convinced I have a very mild form of OCD.
I organize my closet (alphabetically by color, garments arranged according to category(i.e. Polo Shirts, Button Down Shirts, T-Shirts, etc.)), my CD's are arranged alphebetically by Artist then release date, my DVD's are arranged alphabetically by title, and my iBook's Hard Drive is in perfect order.
Just to show how neat and organized I am, I'll tell a little story. My friends play this game with me. I leave the room, and they'll move things around, put items out of order, and stuff like that. When I come back into my room, it takes under 30 seconds to put everything back in the place it was. My God, I have a problem. :) My name is Brent, and I'm an obsessive-compulsive maniac.

I'm pretty messy. I think it runs in my family, with the overall level of messiness dropping off a bit each generation. Maybe my grandchildren will be pretty neat.
I try and keep things neat, but they always get messy. Then, eventually I try and clean up. If, say, I'm cleaning my computer desk up, I always end up with a huge pile of stuff laying on the dressor. I need to sort it and find out what I really want to keep, need to file, need to sell in my next yard sale, and sort the trash from the recyclables. That pile ends up staying there and growing, then when I go to clean that up, I get a new pile somewhere else! It never ends! I need to just learn to part with the things that are sitting around untouched for weeks on end!

yea same here. ive found out tho, that it techinically depends on what brain hemisphere is dominant. if the left is dominant, then you're more organized. if the right is dominant, you can almost always find everything, but its not in a manner that anyone else can find it. then theres people like me, who instead of having one dominant hemisphere, we use both, depending on our mood or amount of sleep or other factors. so when end up having extreme to either side days, or usually a mix of both.

My hard drive and desktop or really neat. My desk and any notebook I have is really messy. My car usually stays pretty clean, but the house is messy because my wife is messy, and we have two infants that keep us from cleaning. Anyway, maybe it should have been "Rate your neatness from 1 to 5"
Left to myself, I'm reasonable neat, but not like my cousin, he keeps his old computer junk and his kitchen cabinets all perfectly neat. I couldn't do that if I tried.

what is the point of this poll? what does it have to do with apple rumors?
actually this a poll i submitted... i've been doing that a lot lately...
i got the idea while thumbing through an old MacAddict issue and looking at one of the first ads for microsoft office 2004. it shows a guy with his feet up and a powerbook on his lap typing away. his desk is totally messy. it was just to see how true this is... if you go to the setups gallery over at SpyMac, in most cases, the neat desks are usually rated highly...
anyway, i am pretty neat yet not. it drives me crazy when i spend time at my cousin's house during the summer because he has to move half of his belongings just to put out the sleeping bag... i am however a packrat, if that makes any sense with me being neat...
and if you guys get any ideas for polls, submit them before you forget... i hate seeing the same poll day after day...
reality
here's another poll i submitted very soon after this that hasn't been run yet:
I am using x% of my harddrive:
A) <10%
B) 11-20%
C) 21-30%
D) 31-40%
E) 41-50%
F) 51-60%
G) 61-70%
H) 71-80%
I) 81-90%
J) >91%

I wasn't neat before September 2003. My room was nearly a dump. Then i removed things from my life, gf went first sadly (coincidental due to other problems).
Now i am neat, i expect a clean simple living, i removed all the crap from my room, painted the walls a sandy cream colour and pulled the carpets from the floor and laid down dark brown floor laminate. I removed the curtains as well, its just 3 windows with a lovely view. Removed all the posters as well.
I ripped out the fitted wardrobe and replaced it with a metal bar going across my room so there are no doors inside my room, just a metal bar to hang my clothes on which is a simple convience for me now. I have an emac and will get a laptop soon to downsize even further. I only have 3 peices of furniture in my room besides the bed that is just a mattress on the floor. The other peices of furniture is a glass desk and a wire wesh chest of draws which is foldable and a AO size illustrators desk.
Because i lost the wardrobe and added a glass desk, wire mesh drawers and a metal bar, the room feels bigger, their is a perception of the room being bigger because there is more of a transparency to it.
I don't have a TV, Radio, Sky, Cable, Video, the only electronic stuff in the room is an eMac and a printer along with a mobile phone, O and a mini hoover to clean the floor. :)
Less is more and clean is tidy... after September 2003 i hate having more than what i need, it adds clutter to my life and try to keep everything to a minimum.
In the words of Fight Club "Waste is a thief", i don't like robbing myself anymore with having useless crap in my life. :p

Why is it sad, infact you are the only person to say this, everybody i know can understand the logic behind it and thinks its great. Its a superfluous component just like doors are in a bedroom, o and to counter your double negative, i live a rich life... i just don't live it like how you would prefer it.
Then again you are only 13 years old, grow up some more before making a comment on things you don't understand, how people want to live their lives is as varied as people themselves.

My dock is practically empty as well.. well normally, at the moment i'm researching alot and when doing a 16,000 + word essay and other 3000 word essays, things are going to get a little messy on the desktop front!
My desktop is nearly awash in icons.

I really am ultra super neat in my office, I am an office furniture reseller so I have to show my desk, so I keep everithing inside drawers or behind doors, two walls are from maple veener from floor to ceiling, the back wall has to windows and everithing in white and the fron wall is all glass to look to the showroom.
Just 2 phones, 2 cell phones (one with bluetooth), few black simple binders, my powerbook G4 15 inch. my wireless mouse and thats all.

I'm exactly the same way. I tend to get anal about the organization of my computer, but when it comes to real life, I'm messy as hell. I'm trying to become neater, but it just doesn't happen. But, once again, since this is the digital world, I voted neat.

I'm generally messy, but I desperately want to be tidy :)
I realise my pb looks much better sitting on a desk with nothing on it. Unfortunately, school at the minute makes sure I'm always working on something, skipping between computer and numerous texts. Ah well.
My car though - I can't STAND a messy car. Not least because the bass rattles empty CD cases et al, if they're lying around. So they don't - thank goodness for CD changers!
My Mac can only have 1 icon; any more on the desktop is really irritating.

I keep my place neat, but it's somewhat dirty. You know, everything is organized and there is no clutter, but there are balls of dust in every corner. Oddly enough, my boyfriend is just the opposite -- total packrat, his ***** is all over the place, but he is always scrubbing the tub!

When it comes to my computer desktop, I like it neat. If I have more than 4 icons it makes me nervous. As for my desk its messy, you know what they about a clean desk. My house is current the same way. I trying to change my tune, it needs to improve so that I can be a foster parent. I have to do a video of the house as part of the application.

I'm definitely one of the "neat" ones, but not overly so, or to the point of being anal-retentive. That being said, I keep my Mac very clean (1 icon=hard drive on the desktop) and always take good care of it. As for the rest of my life, I'm not picky or a neat freak by any means, but I do like things to be orderly, organized, minimal, logical and simple. Hmm, guess those also qualify as reasons why I switched to a Mac!

Since we seem to be talking about our desktops, I've got 14 icons there, and 30 in the dock. 28 of them are permanent, the other 2 are extra apps I've got open. That doesn't include the Trash.
