There will probably be a lot of refurbished 4850's at a lower price than what Apple is charging at their store. Maybe even less than what the educational discount offers?

Would you honestly want someone's 4850
iMac that you know had freezing problems?

That would be stupid

If there were an upcoming firmware fix for the issue, they would be perfectly fine and a good buy if given a discount. Nothing stupid about it.

that is true
but if there was then why would many people
return their 4850 iMac's when they could fix the problem
if it was fixable

I would juss use the update and not go through the haste of restocking fees and returning

Because they want a working machine now, not 3 months from now. Apple will have to sell all these returns as refurbs.
