Goldman is an apple fanboy famous for spreading fake news about SJ's health earlier this year, because he said he trusted his source within apple.

He made some mildly good points and some ridiculous statements. Geesh, why are these people allowed to be called experts? My twelve year old brother could have reported this story better with more facts. Macs have four times the battery life? Okay, one mac *might* have four times the battery life of a similarly spec'd PC, that's it.

By the way, he's not just a reporter. He is CNBC's Silicon Valley Bureau chief. He runs that satellite office.

Guess who was the the bureau chief before him? Steve Dowling, Apple's current head of Public Relations.

Goldman's Chart

Norton Anti-virus $50/yr
Multimedia Software $80-$104
Photoshop $140
Video Editing $100
Music Software $100
Geek Squad Visit $129

What the hell is classified under "multimedia" software? Photoshop Elements would be an acceptable PC alternative to iPhoto, it's $99. Premiere Elements would be an acceptable PC alternative to iMovie, it's $99. Although you can buy Photoshop and Premiere Elements together for $149. I'm going to assume "music" software refers to a PC alternative to GarageBand, which would be something like Mackey's Tracktion for $99 or Sony's ACID for $49.98, depending on your use. I don't understand the Geek Squad visit, as most people would just call their PC manufacturer for service and support. Additionally, beginning with OneCare's relaunch later this year, Microsoft will start providing free anti-virus to Windows users.

Like always, Goldman's way out of reality. At least make a solid argument.

Cont'd

Mac Laptops Weight: 1.2 lbs lighter
Mac Battery Life: 4x better (8 hours)
Faster Chip
Higher-Res Screen

I'm going to give Goldman the benefit of the doubt here, and assume he's referring specifically to the $699 Laptop Hunters HP notebook and the new 17" MacBook Pro, not just a blanket across the board comparison to all Apple's notebooks.

Oops, my bad. For some reason I was confusing him with Jim Cramer. Sorry.

Ain't nothing wrong with what he said, sure he made a few mistakes here and there but for the most part, he was right.

Would you feel the same way if he said Windows 7 came with Photoshop?

It's not final cut, that's for sure. but for your basic take-footage-off-of-camera-and-put-it-on-youtube, it's more then adequate.

Which is why I said he made mistakes. Basically what he said holds true, a mac provides a better experience in the long run than customers, you get better software that comes with it. This is part of the reason why Apple is kicking all the PC companies in customer satisfaction. You have a bunch of hardware companies using someone else's software and presenting that as a solution, pathetic.

8 hour battery life was funny...

Last I checked Apple sells a laptop with 8 hour battery.

I hope you have higher expectations of your reporters/journalists getting their facts right.

Sure do but journalists make mistakes like every other human being.

Is this Goldman in disguise? No comment.

Yes this is Goldman, the Apple fanboy for CNBC.

Turn bluetooth off, turn your brightness to half, make sure you're not playing any video, and it's possible to get half that.

VLC, Winamp and GIMP are valid point, as is AVG, sorta. Most people buy what Best Buy tells them. They get PCcillin or McAfee or Trend Micro and shell out every year because they never learn any better.

And have ever tried to use Windows Movie Maker? Ever?
