when im watching something full screen on my external monitor and i click on the main monitor it minimizes ,is there a way around this?

No, this occurs in both OS X and Windows. I believe it occurs in Ubuntu as well. Sorry.:(

If you're watching it within a playback program (Quicktime/VLC/etc) maximize it manually, so it's still in windowed mode.

If you mean something like Hulu/online video streaming, I don't think you can.

QuickTime Player (Pro), DVD Player and VLC all have options in their Preferences to prevent other screens from dimming and the movie from minimizing when another application is invoked while in full screen. its just the Dock and Menu Bar will appear over the movie until you bring the player to the front again.

also it sounds like your MacBook monitor is your main display. if you want to you can make your external the main display within Display prefereces.

ya it so if i play the video on the main monitor it wont minimize if i click on the secondary?

try it out? although if you dont have QuickTime Pro use VLC.

As I said, it depens how you're playing the video.
