I was just on apple's website and saw this.

How can apple charge so little for it? Didn't they cost $600 new?

Because it's a refurbished (i.e. used but factory restored) previous generation product.

I wouldn't touch this if I were you. Not because it is a faulty product, but because it has the old Intel GMA 950 graphics. I'd only be interested in this if it would only be used for listening to music, web surfing, word processing, etc. but absolutely NO GAMING. If you want a Mac Mini that bad, I'd say fork out the additional amount of money and get the new Mini with the nVidia chipset and DDR3 RAM. Its WAY more worth the money than this.

What if graphics performance isn't something he cares about? That's a big assumption that you're making.

If graphics performance isn't as important the prior Mac mini is a better deal IMO for one reason. You can upgrade the CPU.

In case you didn't notice, I said

Meaning that if he/she isn't going to do any gaming, then it would be a good option.

Oh you mean the part where you were speaking from your perspective? That was about as clear as mud as far as discussing the pros/cons of the two models.

Possibly not the most helpful or cohesive advice.
Let's assume that if he wants to play games then he will either get his tennis racket out or buy a playstation.

I do that all the time on my 2.0 GHz 2 GB RAM mini with the GMA 950. It works perfectly.

None at all. The HD videos take a bit to buffer, but that is more than likely due to my network.

My 1.63 Mini does that fine, no problems at all

You need to get a nice LCD screen though or the HD material won't mean squat
