Someone is spreading rumors that a price drop is coming soon...
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/687475/

A retail shop employee said on a Japanese PC forum that Intel was expected to reduce the price tags of its X25-M series around April 26.

At the same time, HP Japan announced that it will start shipping its new mini 2140 notebook with X25-M 80GB for about $800 (or 79,800 yen) at the end of this month, which is only about $100 more expensive than the 160GB 7200rpm HDD model. According to HP site in US, the price difference is currently $325 in US, which may support Intel's price cut rumor.

If the price cut is true, I'll replace every HDD I have now!

For those who can read Japanese: HP's mini notebook with Intel X25-M 80G and Intel's price drop rumor.

I can only hope this is true... It would be great to be rewarded for my procrastination in ordering a pair. 😀

Wait and see 🙄

Maybe one can fix the price today in US here?

Price in Germany (cheapest dealer):
Intel X25-M 80GB, 2.5", SATA II (SSDSA2MH080G101): € 340,- = USD 440,- 😱
Intel X25-M 160GB, 2.5", SATA II (SSDSA2MH160G101): € 670,- = USD 866,- 😱

Looking forward to what´s happening around April 26th 😱

Funny as I just bought an Intel X25-M two weeks ago 😛

Guess I should get one for a Windows partition if the price drops further.

The Intel X25-Ms are one of those rare technology purchases that I don't really care if they get cheaper. Bought two for a small fortune about 4 months ago and still worth every penny. It's bleeding edge technology so it'll obviously get cheaper as time passes. A fantastic purchase regardless of price, especially with the recent BIOS update to fix the reported fragmentation issue over time.

The best upgrade I've ever made 🙂

Wow, drop of 13% - what an earthquake 😀😉
We will see, how much of the price drop will reach the European market 😕
Looking at your prices overseas I could cry all day long 🙁

But it gives hope for 2010 anyway 🙂

I am a big fan of the x25. RAID 0 on a pair of 80gb for boot is just fun (regardless of how wasteful it is).

In Germany the price of the 160 GB Intel X25-M dropped from € 670 down to € 588 along the weekend.
That´s about 12%. But the lower prices are set by other dealers than before.
We will see, what happens the next days.

No price drop for 80GB Intel X25-M so far at all.

What are the differences? I can´t find one at all.
But prices are different in the same shop 😕

80GB version
SSDSA2MH080G1C1
SSDSA2MH080G1C5
SSDSA2MH080G101

160GB version
SSDSA2MH160G1C1
SSDSA2MH160G1C5
SSDSA2MH160G101

Using google I found something like "Bulk Pack" for *G1C1 🙄😕

I'm tempted to buy an SSD drive (well, actually two and then RAID0) but I'd prefer to wait until OS X 10.6 is out. Prices of SSD drives should slip a little and OS X 10.6 is supposed to be tweaked to the max for greater performance. I'm excited.

To "wait until..." will of course let the prices come down 😉

Edit 05:38 p.m. CET
The 160GB version slipped down another 2% since this morning.
And the 80GB SSD is still not moving 😕

As you can see from the X25-M data sheet, the last two digits of the part # are for the "ordering information" which I suspect describes different drive order quantities and has nothing to do with drive performance...

Update: I just ordered a pair from Newegg!!! 😀

BTW, They are also $319 from Amazon now as well.

Thx for the information.

The price for the 80GB version now is ~10% down in Germany as well.
Actual price is € 301,50 from the cheapest online seller (396 USD).

10.6 is rumored to be out by the summer. I doubt this, I think it will be out in around september/october. This isnt that long of a wait, and I dont need RAID0 in SSD form just yet, I dont feel like going through all the installation procedures twice (now when I buy two SSDs and again when I install a fresh copy of 10.6).
