View Full Version : Education discount on BTO iBook without tax?

I am a student and am looking to get a 12" iBook with a 40 GB or 60 GB hard drive. I live near a state with no sales tax, so I figured I could go to the Apple Store there, but they can't give me an iBook with a bigger hard drive. Are there any other resellers that give education discounts, can do BTO, and charge no tax? Is this asking too much? ;)

Also, is there a difference in quality between Crucial and Apple RAM?

Apple is the only Mac seller that gives education discounts, and you can only order BTO's through the Apple online store. Apple always charges sales tax, so you will definitely have to pay it. Sorry! :(

Apple RAM is extremly overpriced. I think everyone that comes to MacRumors recommends Crucial RAM. Both Apple and Crucial use excellent RAM. I'd go with Crucial if I were you. You will definitely save money by going that route.

tax is rather hefty on a computer purchase. there was $150 on my powerbook.

Know any students in that state? Ask them to buy it.

I noticed that SmallDog has iBooks with the larger hard drives...

But I didn't see anything about education discounts on the computers. :(
