I'm looking for more storage and am thinking a good (cheap) way of doing it would be to be a 3.5 HD enclosure and then I can buy multiple HDs cheaply, swapping them in the HD enclosure as I need.

Has anyone done this? If so could you recommend a good setup? I'm thinking the ideal one would be one that is powdered through USB and can swich disks quickly.

Thanks

3.5" disks consume too much power to be powered via the USB connector. So, you need to reset your expectations. If you want a single "enclosure" that can be switched amongst several drives, then I would suggest something like:

These are docks that you can put a drive in the top without having to screw anything into an enclosure.
