View Full Version : Is it normal for my CAPS LOCK key to be unresponsive?

Alright, well, my caps lock key on my new Macbook has been acting up. It's very unresponsive. I Googled this, and all I found were a few problems with caps lock being inverted. Well my problem is this; I push caps lock, and quite often it doesn't turn on. I need to give it a fairly firm push for it to turn on, however I don't tend to push it hard enough when I'm typing fast. Is this a normal problem or should I have it looked at? (Below is a video I made to show exactly what is happening; sorry for the bad quality)

I have the EXACT same problem as you!
Especially when typing fast, my caps lock key won't activate..
Is that a problem for anyone else with the new MBs?

It's a feature. You need to hold for a short time in order to activate it, in order to prevent accidental activations.

Use search!!

There's threads about this already.

Unsurprisingly, when there's an issue - you tend to not be alone.

Isn't there a way to shut that off though?

If you're only typing a single capital letter, you should be using the shift key anyways.

Oh I thought I had a faulty keyboard too.

I guess I really didn't complain about it or even bother to search it on MacRumors because I didn't really use caps that often.

I had no idea this was a feature, I just thought this was something annoying that was apparent on quite a few macbooks. Its relieving to know that this is a feature.

It's been that way on the Mac keyboards for quite some time, maybe since the iBook-->Macbook switch. As fast as I ever press the Caps Lock key, it turns on for me. As I said before though, who uses the caps key for single letters or that often anyway? I can't think of the last time I actually used mine actually.

I did that when I was 5. lol. (seriously, it speeds up typing to learn to use a shift key properly. lol. something most of us have learned to do.;):D)

Nope. I'm going to say it's been in the mobiles since the unibody switch (maybe the :apple: to command key switch) It's still the "normal" way on my black Macbook. I don't ever use caps lock, it's a useless feature for keyboards. I think there could easily be a better key there, too bad it's standard.
