What's the verdict on this? Is it horribly self-centered or no big deal? I went for the full body picture of myself in my Tar. :D

i think its fine, if people want to or are proud of a paticular photo let them show it. Like you Carleton and your famed love of cookies.

I agree. An Avatar is a representation of yourself to others in the forum. ;)

Carletonmusic, looks like you've lost some weight and had a haircut since that last picture you posted in the Member Pictures thread.

Avatar, the first form of RSI - Residual Self Image, the mental projection of your digital self. Or at least that's what Morpheus told Neo.

The only self-portrait avatar I can think of off-hand was Phil of Mac. He was a character. Too bad he got himself banned.

MongoTheGeek, he he. :) that looks different. but i only got a small glimpse of it, you might have to make it so it looks, or else people only get to see it once, and have to keep staring at that last pic. :p
well i'm using a pretty old picture. now i've got some new 8x AA and good stuff like that. i might have to get a new pic up soon. :p

user Powerbook G5 is one that comes to mind as kind of a glamor shot. I dont' remember other user names at the moment. There used to be a LOT more, but I guess people changed them or found something better.

I prefer something other than a glamor shot - save that for a profile pic if you need to have your image on the boards. Seems too much of an ego thing, for me :D

I had a self portrait for a while, but it cause disarray and chaos throughout the forums (due to my amazing good looks, of course ;)), so I had to take it down.
It is actually still in my avatar, in the lower left corner :D.

I like your Tar! People can get super creative with non-portrait tars. It's a lot harder to do that with a picture, especially posed ones. Sun Baked has a great one, and one of the few human pictures that i like - be it really violent! :D If that was really you Sun Baked, THAT would be creative!!

Question: If "mongo" means "true friend", then a true mongo would be a true true friend?
Just ignore me, I'm the guy that gets annoyed when people say "PIN number" and "ATM machine".

I tried to get it to loop but couldn't figure out how. I did it with graphic converter.
In version 4, select Show Movie Options from the Picture menu. In version 5, select it from the Window menu. Tick the bottom checkbox (Loop) in the Movie Options window, and then tick the "Endless" checkbox that appears.

Not that people are very verbally abusive now, but it might make us all a little more accountable for what we say. Hiding behind a lil' baby image might not work so well! :D

I wouldn't want to see everyone's face in the tars - it would be very boring around here. Keep things creative and don't use your face :D

Imagine what the site would look like with thousands of spinning, flashing, bouncing, blinking, fading, etc. face tars. http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11013&stc=1

ha! yours is a little better than those mugshots/poses - at least you're showing yourself doing/using something - something you're serious about. Its hard to take the others seriously - and spinning scem0 heads would drive the members away :D
Go to the thread display options panel in the UserCP and turn off avatars - its a weird place without them.

Whoa!! That is kinda scary!! Defininitely not as fun. Message boards are very impersonal - little creative snippets make them worthwhile. :)

I think that it really doesn't matter. Others will judge based on their beliefs regardless of what others feel.

What did he do to get himself banned? The same as others who have been banned: repeated violation of forum rules, such as those prohibiting personal attacks on other members, even after a warning.
