View Full Version : 4850 Freeze Cause: Take Two

Could someone with the ATI card else please try this: (1) go to www.hulu.com; (2) click any video to watch; (3) disable "Block Pop-up Windows"; (4) drag video window out to full screen; (5) open activity monitor and monitor CPU% used by Safari (or Firefox if you're not using Safari).

My CUP% was leveling well over 150% and spiking even higher while watching Fringe on Hulu. But on my MacBook Pro (2.16GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB 667 MHz RAM, ATY Radeon X1600) it hovers just below 100% with occasional spikes just over 100%

A possible clue?

If I did it right, my CPU only got up to around 54%...
Using Safari, on wifi. I've had two freezes since Thursday, once with iTunes visualizer, once when writing a post for this forum.

I did the test and mine was 56-57% on the avg and never over 58%.

It never reached anywhere near 100%. So is this good or no?

This isn't 100% ontopic but I wouldn't like to start a new thread. Usually when I'm surfing on the net my CPU usage gets very high because of Safari, sometimes over 60%. I'm just curious is that normal because I have 2.93GHz processor.

There has to be something else opened or your running flash based content in all the windows/tabs. I can have 20 tabs opened in Safari and CPU usage will be low or even at 0 (not flash, no animations, just text).

I'm usually running 2-5 tabs and one of 'em has 5 flash banners. This isn't a big issue because it doesn't cause any lag. Usually it's below 5%

Safari has always been dreadful at runnning flash - always a high percentage use of the CPU.

Mine froze again today while I streamed music to an Airport Express - Safari was closed. it is a Wi-Fi and ATi issue by the looks of things.

Everyone with a faulty machine needs to return it s that is the quickest way Apple will realise they have a big problem.
