Powers up but no chimes

Hi,

i got a macbook from a friend to look at, it suddenly stoped working as he said, when i checked it the macbook Powers up but NO chimes and it will only work with a memory strip loaded into one slot, with two strips inserted the screen remains black (Have tried different memory)!

Also i cant load discs into the SuperDrive, the bar remains in place :confused:

Any expert can help me here?
