Hello.
I have an unlocked jailbroken iphone(don't know if this makes a diffrence?) I am going to give it to my little sister. She is on 02 so doesn't matter if it locks again after restore.

I want to restore it so she can have a 'clean' start. the thing is I think it was 1.0 software before it was broken - if i restore factory settings will it go back to 1.0 and if it does how much does it cost to upgrade back to 2.2?

You guys are all amazing by the way! this is my first post but i have found the answers to so many "apple" questions in the past. A big thank you to all of you that take the time to help us thickos! ;)

Thank you in advance

Ben

No it will upgrade to 2.2.1 and you still can jailbreak/unlock it there. No cost

I thought 2.2.1 couldn't be unlocked because of the baseband?

Is it a 3G iPhone?

If it is, 2.2.X software is free because it is considered stock upgrade. If you execute a clean restore, you will be prompted by iTunes to upgrade to the latest software 2.2.1.

For a 2G iPhone, I think its the same, but I'm really not too sure about that.

hi
thanks for the responses.
its a 2g and it doesn't need to be unlocked or jailbroken after so i think i am happy to go ahead and restore!

one more question.

would it be better to restore using her itunes or mine?

It does not make a difference because you will not be backing up to a previous iPhone backed up on either computer.

It doesn't matter which computer you do the actual restore on, but straight after the restore it'll go through the initial setup which you will most likely want to do on her computer.

You can safely unplug the iPhone after the restore, but before the setup starts.
