I want to put together a dedicated MAME set-up, to play mostly old-school arcade stuff. Would I be able to get away with using a later model G4 Powermac, or would I need something more powerful? I understand that arcade emulation can be pretty processor intensive. Thanks.

To be honest, I would recommend building a PC or buying a cheap current model (MAME only uses the CPU anyway). Any recent low-end AMD/Intel box will be faster than a G4 and likely cheaper too.

I agree with building a cheap PC, but don't agree with MAME using only the CPU. A lot of MAME emulators now have DirectX implementations in them, so even if you aren't using filters, GPUs can help process the video faster and also use v-sync, etc.
