Is there any reliable text to speech application for mac that is free?
Text to speech. It's a free program in Apple OS X 10.3 and above (might be in earlier versions, not sure)
I don't know if it is exactly what you are looking for, but if you go into textEdit and select Edit->Speech-> Start speaking it will read whatever is in the text window. I know it isn't a full fledge app, but if all you need is simple stuff or stuff you can copy and paste in, that might do the trick.
That would be speech to text, not text to speech. I don't know of any, but there might be some.
