Macbook Air Hinge

So both of my hinges died and no applecare. So I wanted to see if anyone came up with a DIY solution or know anything about hinges and is it possible to make some little one and maybe for other air users.

There is no way I am paying for a new air or repairing it. Im almost close to getting my Mac Pro.

The only thing on the hinge is Patent number: RE37712

after 80 views of this thread, I think I am going to tell you what others have not.....pay $800 and get it fixed....

you have to get applecare one you get it fixed if you intend on keeping it while you are at it.

and next time, once it starts to get loose, take it right to apple with the applecare you got to get it fixed for free

DIY on something like this might be asking for trouble....

If you're going to pay $800 to fix it, just go on to the refurb store, but a new rev. a for $999, and sell your current one on eBay.

you can either
1. buy an Air for parts (some on ebay) to fix yours or
2. sell your Air on ebay for parts and buy a new one
3. get yours fixed

either way, you are out north of $500

You need to go to your Apple store and see if they will fix it. The same thing (well, not as bad, but it would have gotten like yours if I had waited) happened to mine a month out of warranty, and they replaced it for free, without even putting up a fight. Got my computer back 24 hours later with an entire new top half, including a new screen, casing, and hinge.

Not sure if your guys over the pond have the same laws as we do in the UK, but if it's a manufacturing problem then you can still get it fixed with no charge, even after the warranty has finished.

The only pain is to prove its a manufacturing problem, however with the number of complaints on the internet that should be to much of a problem.

Well I went to talk to apple support people, not the idiots in the apple store, and they said there no hinge parts and the whole thing had to be replaced. I download a service manual to see if their BSing and the service manual says to replace the whole top part. They gave me a good price though, $500 the replacement and install.

I got both of the hinges out and try to epoxy it, fail. Try to epoxy it to the air, fail.

Well I will try to sell it to ifixit and get as much as I can.

Picture two, how all your hinges are going to look like sooner or later.

I bet TiBook owners know a lot of hinges. I got screwed twice. TiBook and now Air.
