jag, selection with 'show icon preview'

i've got some pix on my desktop and with 'show icon preview' on, and when I try to select them by drawing a box around them, it does not appear to select them (although it does...). doesn't it seem that apple should dim the icons when selected like when 'show icon preview' is off? is there any way around this?

I've noticed this problem as well. Logic would dictate that the selected previews would dim to indicate they are selected but they don't.
