I have been researching for a few weeks and have narrowed it down to these two. I need some portibility which is why I chose these two. My parents are divorced, so I need to take it with wherever I go.
I have a few questions.
1. Will I be able to do light video editing, without it being slow?
2. Same thing with photoshop
3. Will there be that much difference in how fast they are?

I have a 12" iBook with max ram and I do the following:

Video Editing | Image Editing | Music Editing | Author DVD

and all the usual, surfing, email, word, web programming.

So If I am not having any issues you really do not need the iMac G5 unless you want the LARGER wide-screen. :)

Note: If you are encoding or ripping a DVD it will take sometime that is the only reason and 3D rendering is why I would head towards the G5. Since you are claiming you are a light user. :)

It won't be anything to big. Definetley not 3D rendering. Should I spend the extra money and get the Bluethooth module and bigger hard drive?

If you need any help or questions don't hesitate to post or PM. :)

I would go with the 1Gig ram from Outpost.com that cost 160 USD it will save you the trouble to upgrade or sell a dimm not being used later on. :)

Also if you want to use an external display use : http://macparts.de/ibook/

its a hack and will void your warranty however it works. Install it only if you need it. :)

Also, is there any way to upgrade the video card?

iMac, eMac, iBook and some of the PowerBook models you cannot upgrade the video card.

Are you trying to run games on the machine?

I do not believe it will void your warranty, it's just a software modification.

If portability is number one on your list, most definitely get the 12" 1.2, and go with a gig of ram or 512 minimum.

My work iMac is HEAVY, plus you wouldn't want to punch a hole in the LCD or something moving it around.

I do everything on my iBook, and while it definitely is not as snappy as the iMac or my G4 PowerMac, is works just fine; you should not have any problems.
