Bought MP3 player and it's not an iPod

It's an iRiver IFP-795. It's got 512MB of flash memory and an FM tuner.
Also, digital voice recording if I want to make a note to self during the day.
It's about the size of a Pez dispenser.
Currently I have about 100 songs loaded on it. Pretty good for the money.
I didn't want to go over 200 dollars for an MP3 player. No matter if it's an iPod or not. Solid state;no moving parts--good for trailrunning.
I also wanted one with an FM tuner and this fit all the criteria.
My only gripe is that it takes a little while to get use to the controls. It's just like one of those crazy sport watches in that respect. Press, hold, blah blah blah. The software is pretty much barebones. Drag and drop; create folders for specific bands.
Oh, I bought this just before I heard the rumor of Apple's flash-based iPod. So please don't flagellate me.
Overall, money well spent. I'm happy with it.

Honestly, i hope Apple doesn't produce the ipod flash. It doesn't seem Apple.

Oh I forgot to mention that it operates on one AA alkaline battery-or rechargeable. Available anywhere. :D :D

Really though, getting use to the controls ain't that bad. If you are technologically challenged then you would have problems. If you are a technophile like me, then it's just a learning curve to mastery.

Well, the software just works. It's just nothing fancy.
You can drag and drop to the library and make folders for specific bands to keep things organized.
If you're expecting whiz-band along say iTunes, you will be disappointed.
The software just gets the job done.
It's the firmware on the player that does all the work anyway. Which is upgradeable via the iRiveramerica website.
You can loop or shuffle play the entire playlist, loop a single song, loop or shuffle play the contents of a folder, or play intro down the list of songs. Just like any good CD player.
Keep in mind that it also has an FM tuner where you can pre-set 20 stations.
Also, line-in digital recording and pre-programmed EQ. I could keep going but damn dude.
Lastly, it's a USB 2.0 connection so your songs do load up fast.

That's exactly what everybody (including me) said when they first came out with the iPod mini. Why get a 4GB mini when you can pay 50 bucks (IIRC) more for a 15GB 3G? But it turned out to be a huge success and even I ended up owning one. So I guess you *can* say that this kind of foresight and risk-taking could be a very Apple thing to do.

You can choose between mono or stereo recording.
They really did pack this thing with as much features as they could.
They know the competition is fierce. ;)
