Hi!
I have recently got a new 40GB iPod after my old 2nd Generation 20GB iPod's headphone jack got lose and no sound comes out of it. The hard drive still works and I can see my music playing just that no matter what earphones I plug in there is no sound. Anyway, I am wondering other than using it as a hard drive, what other usage can you guys suggest for it?

I'm not that familiar with the 2G iPod, but is there a way to get a firewire-to-line-out type of connector for it, so that you could set it on permanent duty on your stereo or maybe in your car? I remember some of the photos taking the iPod apart and it's pretty impossibly to fix the headphone jack... :(
Or, alternatively, I guess you could either eBay yours to someone who has a dead HD or buy someone's 2G iPod with working everything except the HD off of eBay, and then put your HD into it. :D

Rip that baby apart, unsolder the headphone jack and solder in a new one..
Then sell it on ebay or keep in your auto... Thats what i would do.

If you have a dock, the line out will still work (on the dock). Therefore, you could hook it up to a stereo... You could still use something like iTrip as well.

You could use it as a HD, 20gb can hold quite a bit. I wold use it to tote movie projects around.

...mmm, nope, itrip neds the headphone jack. I'd put it in a dock, connect the firewire end to your mac, and the audio out to your stereo. Now you've got a stereo/more HD space in one. eh? eh???

Uhhh.... it is a 2nd Gen, no dock. I would just do what most have said, use it as a hard drive. Back up to it or cary your really big files around.

I've got a 2G 20 GB and there is no dock option. The dock appeared in 3G models (the ones with the four buttons right below the screen).

If fixable, then I would fix it at cost of parts and shipping.

Thats alot of porn to be carrying around!
You could always copy your home folder over and use it with other macs, assuming you use others at work or school or something. Thats what I would do at least.

you could get a pretty penny for it if you wanted to sell it... i sold my beaten up and broken 5GB for $60.. It was hard to let go after 3 years, but I wasn't going to fix it, or use it again..

Split it in two and make a pair of earrings out of it.

Sry... I'm not familiar with iPods prior to the 3G model... I guess you don't have any options other than using it for an HD.

2G 20GB iPod good as an external HD like everyone else says. The HD is slower than some of the newer models, so unless you could solder the headphone jack on, its good to go.
