Hi all. I purchased the Mac Mini the same day it was announced, and now I have buyer's remorse. I don't have a monitor nor keyboard/mouse, so buying everything will lead me close to an iMac G5. So, I might as well get one. I'll eventually do the eBay route if no one is interested here.
Mac Mini specs:
-1.42 GHz G4
-256 MB ram
-SuperDrive
-Bluetooth Airport Extreme card
-80gb HD
UPDATE:
Well, it just arrived! Unfortunately, it came with a ComboDrive, even though I was charged for SuperDrive! If anyone is interested, let me know! I'll do eBay by tonight.

Are you sure you can't cancel it? I'd give them a call, my guess is if they haven't started processing it they would be able to.

I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks for the idea. I know they only accept returns on stock computers, but I'm not sure what their policy is for product that hasn't been built yet!

You can just cancel the order or change it right then and there when you call. You don't need to pay a restocking fee until after you've opened the box.

If it is a custom order, once its shipped Apple does not accept returns. if its stock you can cancel it before its shipped or if its not opened you can return it but if its open you pay a restocking fee

Just called Apple and was informed that it will be shipped tomorrow so I can't return it. Looks like it's going on eBay.
Thanks for the advice!

Hi
Just curious, how much you lookin' for?
sorry to butt in...
considering it'll be completely unopened/unused, to ask for much discount at all would be unfair, i'd think...
it's a bit thin on the RAM, otherwise, i would have considered buying it because i wanted a SD...
it's $828 as spec'ed at apple.com without tax. i'd put the reserve at $800.

If it hasn't shipped yet, you should still be able to cancel it. Even if it's BTO. Call them again (besides, I thought it wasn't shipping until the 22nd). If you do have to get it, don't open it and just put it on eBay offering worldwide shipping. You'll get your money back, especially if there's a shortage.

No. Once apple begins to assemble your custom order it is considered shipped and is uneditable

I even spoke with a supervisor and he told me the same thing. My Mini is shipping from overseas tomorrow. I believe not ALL Minis are created overseas, hence the early shipping. The Apple rep. said it should arrive no later than Monday afternoon.

If it was not built according to what you ordered, you should be able to get a refund from Apple, although you may have to convince them.

Yup, or at the very least get a refund for the Superdrive discrepancy.
0s and 1s, good luck with the eBay listing. Please post the link to the auction here. Thanks.

That's crappy. I hope you get a full refund from Apple for this. I would imagine you could, as it's not what you ordered and it will probably take a month to get a replacement sent to you!
Put up a big fight and tell them you are going to tell your CC company to refuse the payment, etc etc... I would be super pissed if that happened to me!

Well, unfortunately, this Mini is off the market since I was told by 3 different Apple reps that it would work on my TV. I had told them that I was ready to return it for an iMac g5, but the "genius" at the bar told me that it was compliant to my exact TV specs. I go home, turn it on, and nothing. I call the Apple store (1800MYAPPLE) and ask to speak to a supervisor. Instead, the rep I spoke with REFUSED to let me speak with one until I spoke with him! I told him my story and said, and I quote," Ah, well I'm sorry about that. Is that all?" I then asked to speak with a supervisor and he said that there was no need since a supervisor would have said the same thing. I asked,"So what's the point of a supervisor?" He replied,"I'm not sure, sir, I'm not a supervisor." After minutes of speaking, he finally directed me to one, and not more than 2 minutes waiting for one, I was hung up on! So now I'm stuck with an opened Mini that I refuse to pay a restocking fee for. I can't believe this. I thought for a second that I was dealing with Dell, not Apple.
Sorry for leading everyone on. But this Mini POS is off the market.

Hey,
Keep on trying, sometimes there are just "bad" reps answering Applestore online customer service. There are also some reasons why you deserve a return, mainly because they messed up your config! (a combo drive). Just remind them that and say that you have problems connecting to the TV. If that doesn't work, send Steve Jobs an email :) I think its sjobs@mac.com (cannot remember), but when I had a problem, one of Steve's assistants handled it.
Keep on trying, you deserve your money back :)

Please post back with how Apple compensated you for the incorrect billing and/or faulty configuration.
Also, when you say it'd work with your TV, what do you mean by that? DVI input on the TV? Obviously, the low-res video adapter would work, but I assume that isn't what you meant. I'd ask the genius again.
Finally, sorry to hear you got such a runaround from Apple Support. As mentioned above, some of them are jerks. But many, many of them are very knowledgeable and helpful.

When I asked about using my TV as a monitor, I asked explicitly about its usage. I had told the rep at the genius bar that I had NO monitor and I wanted to return the Mini for an iMac because of this. I asked if it was possible to use my TV (Sony 34xbr910) solely for the computer, and not for its typical use shown on Apple.com (iPhoto, DVD, etc.), but as my everyday monitor. (Office, internet, programming, etc.) He said yes numerous times, so I purchased a BT keyboard/mouse, and off I went. As assurance, I called Apple and asked the same thing twice to two different reps, and they also said yes. Even one scoffed at my "foolish" question. Well, here we go. I open it, connect it, and it doesn't work. So I immediately called back to tell them of my situation. That was when I got the jerk who refused to let me speak with the supervisor.
Y'know, I'll give the email to Mr. Jobs a try. Also, I'll call on Monday.
I have to thank you folks. This is why I love this site. Very friendly people and so much advice. Thanks a lot!

Even one scoffed at my "foolish" question. If you're worried about getting monkeys on the phone, which we all do a lot of the time, take their names. It gives them accountability, and if they do give you the wrong information a formal letter of complaint, I'm sure, will carry a lot more weight -- especially if they happen to be recording conversations.
Standard practice if you work at a call centre -- where there's blame, divvy it out to those who deserve it!

Yes, it's a $100 option.
I'd still be complaining about being charged for it when I only received a Combo drive. But why can't you use it with your TV? As long as it has an S-Video or RCA composite in and you have the DVI-to-TV adapter, it should work fine after a restart. Maybe the resolution is set too high, and the TV can't see it. You may need to reset the PRAM and/or take it to a regular monitor first to set the res and freq lower.
