Selling Goo Goo Dolls guitar- am I wrong?

Hey everybody,

I am a musician that enters contests all the time to try to get free stuff, gear, etc. In June (on my birthday), I won a guitar that was once owned by Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls (This is the contest page: http://www.fender.com/freestuff/googoodolls/body.html ). Since i don't really like the Goo Goo Dolls, I am selling it on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=903091615&rd=1 ). Now, all of these Goo Goo Dolls fanatics are sending me threatening emails, and posting incredibly rude things on some goo goo dolls message board.

The question is: if you were in the same position as I am, would you do the same thing? If you won a contest like this, would you sell what you won? The money used will go to start up my new jingle writing company, and pay for part of my last year in college.

Also, i just wanted to say that I have been visiting this site a lot lately, and the site is great.

I agree. Who gives a crap what those jerks say. The guitar is yours, do whatever the heck you want with it. If they were TRUE fans, they'd be scrambling for money. They're just envious. Taunt 'em right back. :D

i aggreee sell it and use the money to finins college, that is one of the most imporntAnt things you can do.

Thanks for your support, everyone. I totally agree that if they don't want to bid, it is truly none of your business. One girl emailed me and said that she doesn't have much money, but would love to own the guitar. She offered to pay the 950 (which is the opening bid) if I took the guitar off of ebay. Do you think I should? It has been on for 2 or 3 days now, and I have had no bidders, and she seems to truly want the guitar.

Well, she would pay shipping. I would take any form of payment...she seems very trustworthy.

I think it's right of you to sell it if you don't want it.

I think the part that the people are mad about this part: "I am not the ultimate fan that this deserves to go to. This guitar was meant for the ultimate Goo Goo Dolls fan, and I am going to see that it gets to them, even if I have to sell this guitar."

Do whatever you like. As far as the girl who really wants it, you could sell it to her... Or maybe hold a contest of your own. Just an idea...

Thanks for all your help....I think i will sell it to her. While she is offering less than the value of the guitar with its heritage, it is fair for any other guitar of the same make. She also seems to be in love with the band, and the guitar, so that works out well for all.
