I finally got the...

Logitech Z-340 speakers. They are friggin awesome. I went to BestBuy with my brother and about 4 of his car/stereo friends, and we listened closely to all the speakers there. These came out to sound the best, and cost the least.

Man o man do they sound good!

I don't know the specifics of the Bose speakers in watts.. I looked on their site...

BUT, I can assure you, you have to try the Bose speakers to know how good they are. I am telling you.. once you hear a CD with Bose speakers, you will lust for it.

They should be having a Bose showroom where you can try the speakers out. Just go to the site and check.


It's not just listening. It is a listening experience.

2.1 unfortunately. You can get internal and external sound cards that support more, but 2.1 is as far as you're gonna get without it.

Just feel I need to back irmongoose here, he seems to be having a little trouble convincing u about BOSE, so one more time...

BOSE do make some of the finest speakers in the world!

I'd take them over anything! ...if I had the cash :(

Yes, I do agree that Bose speakers are great, but i only had $150 to spend. Anyone know of a mac sound card? that is new, but not over $400?

I have the 4.1 Cambridge System here with me with 2.1 sound output. You should be able to get 4.1 by using an audio splitter to go to all four channels of audio, instead of just the two.

I don't remember hearing anything about 3.1. My father has a 7.1 [thing] at home worth around $3500, but has it set up for 5.1. :p

Yeah, I did that too when my computer went down. I just mada a splitter and hooked it up to my speakers and presto! 5.1 surround sound! (the center was simulated.)
And I think 3.1 is Left-Center-Right-Sub. :)

There are more expensive speakers than the Bose 901 Series VI, but none better at giving lifelike reproduction.

Unfortunately, Mac hardware only supports the minimum. Of course, in 1984, digital stereo was a big deal. 18 years later, it's not quite as big a draw. Core Audio in Mac OS X supports multiple channels although I'd have to look at the documentation to find the limit--maybe it was 16 or 32 channel--maybe.
