Many people are going on about how OSX should be ported to the PC.
What are everyone's opinions?

Microsoft owns a percent of Apple shares...do you think MS will let them port a new OS to PC's, possibly stealing business away???

NO.

I would love to see it though

It'll probably never happen, but I think it should be ported. OSX is the most impressive OS out there, and I really want another alternative to Windows for my pc. I've been using Linux for a while now, but it's still lagging in the graphics department.

Apple makes most of it's money from hardware sales. They don't have a huge incentive to move to generic intel hardware.

Also - you would then have an OS with 0 applications.

And I will ask for the umpteenth+1 time, how is apple going to combat the applications' barrier to entry?

i think they might, i mean itunes probably will come to windows but that bothers me, i mean mac has almost never ported anything to windows. One reason i think they shouldnt is that if mac has amazing devices like the ipod only for mac it might get some pc users to change, but a virtual pc of mac os x to windows like we have for windows for mac os x wouldnt be that bad.

It could be a double edged sword...

On one hand it could great for Apple. They could branch out to Windoze users....possibly bringing them out of the darkness!

On the other hand, even if they switched to OS X on their PCs, it could kill possible hardware sales. The biggest part of the Mac OS is experience lies in it's hardware.

It could bring both good & bad...

How many times has this been discussed before? *sigh*

It's getting borring.

iapple, search this board and you'll find at least 5 topics on a PC compatible OS X version.

I don't think they should port OSX to PC, because that's going to ruin the whole Mac experience. The greatness of the Mac is that the OS and the hardware is made by the same company and there is no case where something works on a Dell, but not on a Sony.
Trying to make the OSX compatable with all sorts of PC hardware would be a nightmare, and you can almost picture the millions of calls to Apple customer service.
I am against OSX being ported to wintel.
