I am not running Jaguar right now, but I do have a modified version of the desktop pic that I borrowed from one of you guys reading this (I forget who exactly). I used Transparent Dock, as most others probably did, and I used TinkerTool to modify the font for the clock.

It's Myriad! :p

OK I think I fugured this one out.
The Reasons an Apple+Shift+3 Picture distorts color, is it is taken for Print. I converts the RGB of your screen into CMYK, Thus loosing many of the vibrant screen Colors of True Blue and True Red.
However, an Apple+Shift+4 Screen Capture takes the picture for digital use, there for no conversion occurs. Saving Colors like the Blue of My desktop from turning Purple.

BTW: Could Someone Point me in the direction of a reliable way to have a completely transparent dock. I've tried three different things and they have all not worked.

I am using the "Change the desktop picture once per minute" feature of jaguar. I don't know about the scrolling desktop feature. (i don't believe that it exists)

so what exactly happened to you imac? g3 or g4?

Sep 4, 2002, 09:50 PM
it was an old g3 slot loading.

we had bought it new and we kept it running for almost 6 years.

the hard drive failed one day (it refused to boot and seriously loud noises were heard from the drive. imagine fingernails on a blackboard.)

everything was wiped from the drive. it happened almost 6 months ago and to this day we have no idea why it happened.

the dvd drive was also broken. so instead of spending a high amount of money to repair it, i have opted to save my money for a new tower. :D

btw, i had heard rumors that zach de la rocha was planning a solo career. have you heard anything?

Sometimes it's still fun to play the demo versions because FV doesn't always have the maps, or the servers that do have the beach and trenchtoast maps are full. Same goes for UT, though I'll probably delete all the Demos once UT 2003 is released. One reason I am glad I have a PC is Army Ops, that game is great!

yep. he is on his solo career right now. he has been on a few tracks put out by some notible rappers and some drum and bass artsits. he is on one track with drum and bass artist... roni size. i believe zack is still putting together his solo project as we speak.

meanwhile .... the rest of ratm group has hooked up with ex lead singer of now defunct sound garden (chris cornell... mr "i want to break my rusted cage and run!:D ) . they jammed together and put out an album (dont know if its even out yet though) under the band name of "civilian" and were suppose to be touring with Tool. they however broke up and then qucikly got back together again. so expect something from them. even if they break up again because they have created some material together. cant wait.

what would be cool is for soundgardern and ratm to get back with thier original groups again. they would officialy OWN!

dig it.

as a windows user, i had a pretty hard time locating the dock where it wasnt annoying. i always hated the fact that my desktop was cluttered, tho. i liked the "idea" of the quicklaunch bar, but of course it has never been fully realized. Now i have a transparent dock in the bottom right corner of my screen. I turned off bouncing, and its really really nice now.

You just have to try some things before you find something that works.

Nah, I will always like the icons on the destop itself..... I keep the dock hidden, with slight magnification, at bottom. Re: the ambitiouslemon thing, my view is just because an OSX developer thought the Dock was the future of desktop organization, doesn't mean it's the best way to go. I will never accept a desktop without application launch icons, to hell with the iDock!:D

I do use the dock for some applications when I'm using a browser or something, so it does come in hancy, but I will always like my icons primarily on the desktop.

I'm pressuming you ment me, not AL, anyways, to get ur CPU, memory usage etc displayed on ur desktop use Aquamon (http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=14386&db=mac) .

verbose is right. i used aquamon. dont know what is going on with the app lately. the developers had some problems and the app is in limbo. they are on version 1.7.x but the only one you can find on the net is 1.4.x. seems like most of the people on MR use it. its a port fo a pc app called coolmon.

This is a psuedo mac theme on xp. The windows UI is so hideous looking that I had to give it a much needed make over. I think my desktop looks a whole lot better than stock xp. As for iTunes..that is just a skin running over qcd player. Take a look at my old desktop. Hideous aint it?

All you have to do is to 3-finger your screen capture then double click the file it creates. This should open preview. Then go to the file menu and choose export. Then select whatever format you choose i.e. jpeg, etc..

P.S.

For those of you that don't know what I mean by 3-Finger.

Command-shift-3 get's you full screen capture. Command-shift 4 gets you a lasso. When you are using the lasso you can press space bar and get window only capture. When using the Command-shift 4 command you can press escape to abort.

Here's mine with one of my favorite backgrounds. My dock pops up on the left and is pinned to the top. My desktop pic switches every 15minutes. I tried it faster then that and I found it just too distracting. I've also tried having my screensaver as the desktop background but it drops my FPS in UnrealTournament from 70 to 55 unless I kill the process everytime. It just became too much of a hastle. I think it would be cool if they enabled the screensaver/background feature as long as they had it kill or pause it while other programs ran fullscreen.

im surprised im the only one who sint using a static image. guess im the only bozo who likes wasting cpu cycles running a movie or screensaver as a decktop background.

i think it would be really nice to have a nice 3d rendered (bryce-like) landscape as the background with just the clouds gently floating by and the waves gently lapping at the shore. just a very subtle animation that would loop well. that would be my desktop in an instant if someone could make the 3d movie.

as for now im just using screensavers mostly, with an occasional fraggle rock episode as a desktop for good measure.

Well, I do sometimes... but like you said, it just takes up too much cpu cycles. Blah!

I've heard you can use GIFs as backgrounds. Has anyone tried using an animated gif and if so how does that fair in comparison to using the screensaver as a background?

Heh. This is my submission. Not sure why we do this, really - it's sorta like a circle jerk. But I've been known to send an odd screencap or two to a Windows lover... :-P

Anyway. Nothing special, just a couple of haxies and some tech stuff. Enjoy!

What do you mean by desktop items? Do you mean the desktop picture? To change the picture all you have to do is go to the desktop control panel in system prefs and select a new picture or a new folder with new pics in it.

This is an easy one all you have to do is select the folder, app, or document you want to change the icon on and either type command-I or go to file in the menu bar and get info. Once you have the get info window up for the icon you want to change or the icon you want to copy. Just select the icon in the info window by clicking on it and then copy it or paste in the new one.

I hope you that helps.

Bah. Either the rest of you have great eyes or I just have a badly calibrated monitor, but I still don't see it.

Here's a revised version again. If it didn't work this time maybe somebody with Photoshop can fix it.

Now you're really going to hate me. You fixed the black area but you're getting a lot of artifacts around all the text now. Just being picky. :p

Also maybe you have you're monitor set too dark or the contrast is too low. The black was very obvious against the grey. Try recalibrating your monitor use the monitor control panel and just do what it tells you to.

Picky, picky, picky :p
I can see it if I turn my monitor really bright but everyhing looks fuzzy when I do that so that's why I can't see it. I'm pretty sure my monitor's calibrated right, I've adjusted it millions of times just to make it look the way I want it (yes I'm picky too) Are you on an LCD by any chance?
Anywayz, the artifacts are actually around all the text from what I can tell, but that's a little more than what MSPaint can handle.:)

I'm using an Apple Studio Display 17. That is a very nice 17" CRT. Also I realize the artifacts are around all the text. Can't you fix that. I can wait.:D

Nope, not Kerrigan. That's the new character Nova from "Starcraft - Ghost." Personally, I think it's about time they had a "Metal Gear Solid"-like game for "Starcraft." Playing a Ghost or a Dark Templar like Solid Snake. Wow!
