does anyone know the importance of this yoga?
The Pranayama Institute is a non-sectarian, non-profit educational public charity dedicated to making available, at no cost to students, instruction in the practice of Hatha and Raja Yoga techniques of breath and mind control. All techniques, lessons, e-books, packages, articles, and guidance are freely given with the option of making a tax-deductible donation. In addition, instruction and reading materials are made immediately available online to all students.
In the past, the practice of Pranayama was limited to a select few, namely monks, ascetics, and mystics. Today, it is both possible and necessary to disseminate the techniques of proper breathing and concentration on a vastly wider scale. The system of Pranayama is credited with conferring upon its practitioner a calm, balanced, and focused mind, increased vitality, and longevity. Pranayama awakens the brain and the cerebrospinal nerve centers to their limitless potential. There is ample proof that many of the great spiritual and intellectual giants of the past were adepts in the practice of Pranayama in one form or another.
While books on Pranayama have been published for the general public, the shortcoming of these works is that they do not contain the simple yet effective techniques of Pranayama that can be practiced safely without supervision by the average individual. Techniques that are designed to yield the specific results that practitioners may be seeking--results such as the removal of insomnia, help in losing weight, improving digestion, gaining magnetism--are not described in most Yoga books. Neither do these works, largely Hatha Yoga based, contain the advanced methods of Raja (Royal) Pranayama that require direct and personal guidance. Books on Pranayama, sometimes full of errors that crept in during darker times, are not designed to direct artists, students, business people, or athletes in practicing tailored methods of breathing. The Pranayama Institute freely offers the simplest, directed, and most advanced systems of Pranayama to all who apply to receive the techniques. Further, otherwise unknown techniques which have been redefined and developed specifically for dissemination by The Pranayama Institute are now available. Please go to our Pranayama page for a complete list of techniques and vocational packages.
